Don’t let a little chilly weather stop the fun—grab a sweater, throw on a sweatshirt, and come celebrate with us at Lansdowne Friends School!
Join us Saturday, May 2 from 11 AM–3 PM for one of our favorite community traditions: a joyful day of music, food, games, and family fun. This year’s Around the World theme will bring our campus to life with activities and excitement for all ages.

May Fair is Almost Here!

Saturday, May 2 | 11 AM–3 PM

Each year, May Fair brings the Lansdowne Friends School community together for a day of food, music, and hands-on activities, with proceeds supporting school programs, field trips, and future community events.

This year’s theme, Around the World, transforms our campus into a joyful, carnival-like celebration filled with:

Stewardship, one of the core values of Quaker education, came to life on campus this spring.

Students spent the afternoon planting bulbs, preparing garden beds, making seed balls, and caring for the spaces they share. From the youngest learners to the oldest, everyone took part.

Through hands-on work, children begin to understand their connection to the environment and their responsibility to care for it.

Just as importantly, they experience the pride that comes from working together. When the campus is in full bloom, they’ll be able to look around and say, “We helped make that happen.”

They marched silently through Lansdowne, carrying messages of hope, justice, and peace.

In January, first and second graders studied the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and the role of peaceful protest during the Civil Rights Movement. Last month, they reflected on their own hopes for the world and created signs to share their messages with the community.

Walking to Borough Hall, students moved with intention, silently, seriously, and safely—honoring the spirit of the marches they had studied. Along the way, neighbors waved, cars honked, and the community responded with encouragement.

At LFS, learning doesn’t stay in the classroom.
Students are given opportunities to engage with the world around them, thoughtfully, responsibly, and with purpose.

Special thanks to Teacher Brooks for his ukulele cover of Blackbird, a song originally inspired by the Civil Rights Movement.

“Before the success… there was struggle.”

As part of March Madness, we welcomed Harold Jensen to LFS to share his story with students, from early self-doubt to playing on the national stage.

His message wasn’t about the spotlight. It was about what came before it: discipline, preparation, and the belief that growth happens over time.

At LFS, this is what we aim to nurture every day: students who embrace challenge, persist through uncertainty, and come to trust their own capacity to grow.

Because it’s not in the arriving…
it’s in the striving.

3rd and 4th graders spent the winter growing amaryllis bulbs from scratch! All it took was some heat mats, grow lights, and a lot of patience ⏳.

Then they entered them in the Philadelphia Flower Show.

Real setting. Real judging. Real outcomes.

This is what it looks like when learning moves beyond the classroom.
