Christopher Dock, a Colonial schoolmaster and devoted Christian, loved his students. As he taught the “3 R’s,” he strove to build character and to win children’s wills so that they would want to obey. He pointed them toward Christ by word and example. His methods of teaching, motivation, and discipline were very practical and effective. Dock realized his insufficiency, and at the end of each day,

he knelt at his desk and prayed for each student by name. Teachers will find inspiration, encouragement, and practical help in this brief biography and collection of Dock’s writings, which include Schulordnung (“School Management”), a letter to his pupils, rules of conduct for children, Christian rules for children, and several hymns.

Coast to Coast! 🚴‍♀️🇺🇸

Dock faculty member and alum Darla Bergey ('88) is taking on an incredible adventure—biking across the country from Portland, Oregon, to Portland, Maine! Darla will join 23 other riders for the 3,784-mile journey, which includes an amazing 154,704 feet of climbing and 43 days in the saddle, with plans to reach the Atlantic on October 5.

Darla has spent time preparing, including a long training ride with her son, Lincoln, in Colorado this summer. She officially began her journey last Thursday, same day as our first day of school, by dipping her tires in the Pacific Ocean.

We invite the Dock community to keep Darla in prayer for safety, good health, endurance, and meaningful experiences along the way. We’ll be cheering her on across every mile and look forward to welcoming her back to campus for Quarter 2! Follow Darla’s journey on Instagram .

Our Dock PIAA State Championship baseball team was recognized in front of the Phillies' crowd last evening at Citizens Bank Park—and the roar when Dock Mennonite Academy was announced was incredible! It was especially meaningful to see Erik Kratz (’98), Dock alum, former Phillie and Dock’s head baseball coach, honored as part of the celebration.
There were 500+ Dock fans in attendance, making it a great evening to celebrate an unforgettable championship season. And with a strong group of key players returning next year, there’s already plenty to be excited about for Dock baseball this spring! ⚾🏆

Way Back Wednesday!!
These black-and-white photos take us back to the early years of Dock's Country Fair & Auction, a tradition that has brought generations of students, families, alumni, and friends together in support of our school. This past May, we celebrated the 65th Dock Country Fair & Auction, and while much has changed since the first event in 1961, the heart of the day remains the same: community, generosity, and coming together for a shared mission.

One tradition that has truly stood the test of time is the chicken barbecue. According to Philip Ruth's Sowing Seeds of Faith, Arlin Lapp helped launch the barbecue with donated chickens from Longacre Poultry. In those early years, dinners sold for just 35¢ for a small portion or 50¢ for a large, and by 1968, the chicken barbecue helped make that year's auction the most successful fundraising event in Dock's history to that point.

We'd love to hear your story! Share in the comments:
