In chapel earlier this week, we were grateful to hear from so many students willing to share their stories about summer experiences with many stepping onto the chapel stage to share for the first time! Students reflected on experiences ranging from camps and service projects to international travel, running a 10-mile race, family time, and adventures with friends. Through it all, common themes emerged: growing in faith, serving others, stepping outside comfort zones, building meaningful relationships, and recognizing God at work in everyday life.

Freshman Jasmine Muhlfeld reflected after a mission trip to West Virginia, she encouraged students to “find ways to serve in your communities,” and remember “our lives are such blessings, and God is always working through us to help others.” Senior Tessa Moyer reflected on her time in Croatia and challenged classmates to not get distracted by worldly things and forget what really matters, and to appreciate the people God has placed in our lives and “give thanks to God.” This time was a meaningful way to begin the year and another reminder of our theme, Everyday Worship, as we recognize the many ways God continues to shape us through everyday experiences.

A few passing storms couldn’t stop us from having a great Back to School Night! It’s always special to see parents walking the same campus paths as their children (rain or shine!), stepping into classrooms, meeting teachers, and getting a glimpse of the learning and relationships that shape each school day.

As we explore this year’s theme of Everyday Worship, evenings like this remind us of the importance of the connections between families, teachers, and students that make the Dock community so special. Meet Sarah Rosenberger ('91), Dock’s full-time Associate Director of Admissions! After serving in a dual role as Assistant Principal on our EC–8 campus and Admissions Associate, Sarah is stepping fully into Admissions this year, helping prospective families experience the relationships, opportunities, and community that make Dock distinctive.

We’re excited for Sarah and this student team as they help welcome new families to Dock this year!

Last Friday, we welcomed Steve Wilburn, Lead Pastor at Covenant Community Fellowship, to chapel to help us dig deeper into this year’s theme, Everyday Worship, rooted in Psalm 117. Steve brought along a treasured possession: a 1997 autographed Scott Rolen Phillies rookie card, carefully protected in a special case. Why? Because its value changes how he treats it. He used the card to illustrate the original idea behind worship, recognizing and expressing the ultimate worth of something.

And worship, he reminded us, extends far beyond singing or gathering for chapel: “Worship isn’t just something we do on a Sunday morning or even in chapel here at Dock. It’s something that’s supposed to permeate our entire lives, every moment dedicated to declaring that Jesus is worth it all. ” Through how we love, serve, spend our time, set our priorities, and live each day, Steve challenged students to consider one important question: What am I worshiping?

Thanks to Chapel Committee for leading us in a great Chapel Orientation on Wednesday! Jonas Camilleri ('28) reminded students that chapel is “more than just another thing on our schedule, it serves as a place to slow down and reorient"… giving students opportunities to strengthen both their relationships with one another and their relationship with God.

Three times each week, our community gathers for chapel—a chance to step away from the busyness of classes, activities, sports, and everyday life to worship and grow together. Throughout the year, that takes many forms: worship through song, visiting speakers and college choirs, student and faculty sharing, advisor and interest groups, and much more.

After a fun filled skit that shared advice on how to get the most out of chapels, we ended the time with students writing down prayer requests and then exchanging within Advisor groups to pray for one another. Also, enjoy this video that was created by Neva Peterson (’27) and Lydia Sensenig (’28) asking students for their favorite chapel memories!

Students in Ms. Leinbach’s World Cultures classes kicked off their study of geography with a hands-on challenge: Can you turn a 3-D sphere into a completely flat map? 🌎

Using beach balls, students quickly discovered that flattening a globe means some distortion is inevitable. They then compared their own attempts with different map projections and explored why certain projections and map types are better suited for different purposes.

A fun way to think critically about the maps we use to understand our world! Great work, everyone!

Another successful Pioneer Day is in the books! Pioneer Day is a favorite Dock tradition that sets aside a full day at the beginning of the school year for community building, orientation, and fun. From class meetings and the launch of Dockchase 2026 to whole-school karaoke, Chapel with singing My Lighthouse, Dock Talk with Principal Hackman, Mini-Term meetings, and other activities, the day helps set the tone for the year by giving students opportunities to connect with classmates, teachers, and the broader Dock community.

Our 9th graders also enjoyed a special Freshman Orientation, with games on the turf and lunch on Detweiler Lawn providing time to build connections with their new classmates and advisors as they begin their high school journey. We’re grateful for a day dedicated to building relationships, having fun together, and setting our students up for a great year ahead!
