Themba Creative Learning Center THEMBA is a Nationally Accredited Center. We are accredited by the National Accreditation Commission Our history dates back to early 2000.

Our beautiful, clean and secure facility is located on a secluded, 2 acres of landscape -- complete with parking, playground, and 8200 square feet of children-friendly learning building. THEMBA [pronounced "Timba"], is an East-African word that means "Trusted". Upholding the honor of the meaning of our name, THEMBA strives to reach a balance between “academic” structure and creative social interaction, with dedicated, caring childcare professionals who support our mission and philosophy. Our guiding mission is to provide children with many enriching and diverse learning opportunities -- with a focus on the four (4) domains of learning -- social, cognitive, physical, and emotional. From 2000-2008, THEMBA operated a successful not-for-profit Enrichment Academy, serving over 600 children in the District of Columbia. In 2007, Themba Creative Learning Center, LLC was formed! Everything stops… and the books come out! 💛 It’s DEAR Time — Drop Everything And Read.

Teachers gather the children for a story, while others choose a book to explore independently. Making reading part of our everyday routine builds early language and literacy skills, encourages independence, and helps our children grow a love for books. 📖✨

And DEAR Time doesn’t have to stop here! Keep it going at home by choosing a favorite book together or letting your child pick the story.

Little hands are always hard at work. 👐🏽✨

Building, creating, exploring, helping, imagining , what looks like play is how children do some of their most important work. Each experience gives them a chance to try something new, figure things out, build confidence, and discover what they can do.

This Labor Day, we celebrate hard work in all its forms, from the important work of childhood to the educators who pour so much care, patience, and love into creating meaningful experiences for our children each day. 💛

Did you know music supports nearly every area of a child’s development? 🎶

Music gives children the opportunity to move, listen, explore new sounds, and express themselves. Through rhythm, repetition, and movement, children strengthen their memory, language, listening, and early literacy skills. Dancing and playing instruments also support body awareness, balance, coordination, and fine and gross motor development. Music can even encourage turn-taking, connection, and self-regulation!

Our children are always exploring, discovering, and learning through their senses! 🌸🎨🦋 Whether they’re feeling new textures, getting creative with art, or observing nature up close, these everyday experiences help them make sense of the world around them.

Sensory play builds fine motor skills, encourages language and problem-solving, supports focus, and helps children feel more comfortable with new textures and experiences. So much learning happens when children are free to explore! ✨
