In honor of Juneteenth, we're excited to once again spotlight Black-owned businesses in our community. After the overwhelming support for last year's guide, we've refreshed and expanded it to help you discover even more amazing Black-owned restaurants, shops, service providers, and entrepreneurs.

✨🔐Major milestone unlocked! 🔐✨
Yesterday, alongside Senator Chris Van Hollen, The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George's County, Inc. announced that it has been awarded $2 million in Fiscal Year 2026 Congressionally Directed Spending funds to complete the Ivy Village Incubator for Nonprofit Excellence (Ivy VINE) complex!
The Ivy VINE is a transformative initiative designed to strengthen and sustain nonprofit organizations serving Prince George's County, particularly those working in communities of color. This federal investment will support completion of the Ivy VINE Training Center and Podcast Studio—a state-of-the-art space for nonprofit education and collaboration—as well as the Ivy VINE Office Suites, which will provide affordable shared workspace, meeting rooms, and resources for up to 10 nonprofit organizations.
Alpha Kappa Alpha North Atlantic Regional Director Elicia Pegues Spearman, Esq. shared, "I congratulate The Ivy Community Charities of Prince George's County, Inc. and Iota Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, its affiliated organization, for this tremendous accomplishment. This $2 million award will help The Ivy VINE Training Center and Office Suites open the door to valuable services and benefits for nonprofits who in turn will be well-positioned to share their expertise and services with the community in a variety of important ways. In collaboration with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Prince George’s County Chapter and the Prince George’s County Branch NAACP, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Iota Gamma Omega Chapter hosted a Candidate Forum featuring candidates for Sheriff, State’s Attorney, and County Executive.
With 350+ attendees and overflow seating needed to accommodate the crowd, community members showed up ready to listen, learn, and engage. Attendees had the opportunity to hear directly from candidates, ask questions, and leave more informed about the individuals seeking to serve our community.
We thank everyone who joined us in supporting informed voting, civic engagement, and an informed electorate. Together, we strengthen our community when we show up, stay engaged, and make our voices heard.

In support of Mental Health Month, the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Iota Gamma Omega Chapter teamed up with Bowie/Mitchellville Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the Bowie Police Department, and Kaiser Permanente for a Mental Health Awareness Walk focused on wellness, community, and connection.
Attendees kicked off the morning with a high-energy Zumba warm-up, completed the 5K walk, and connected with community partners and local food trucks along the way. Together, we continue to encourage conversations around mental health while promoting healthy minds, healthy bodies, and strong communities.
