This is something that is so needed. As a BCBA and former crisis intervention trainer, I was equipped to handle my son’s intense behavior. No one else in our family was. I asked the developmental pediatrician what do other families do. Her response was “They just do the best they can”. That was heartbreaking! Kudos to Autism New Jersey for seeing the need and offering a solution. Learning how to keep your family safe, both you and your loved one who is struggling, is a game-changer for family stress and safety.

Wow! This is such an amazing offer! My little guy needs his adaptive medical stroller for longer distances. It takes up a ton of room in the car and I worry about the day we try to fly with it. This is a picture of a tired 6 year old after going to an event. Not pictured are the people at the church that sought to accommodate, include, and authentically happy to see him there. At every turn we were greeted by smiling faces and I discovered I was the anxious neurotic one who worried about what he was doing. Everyone else allowed him to explore as he wanted and participate in whatever made sense for him. It was a great reminder of what it’s like when there is room at the table for EVERYONE.
