Think keeping a 4-H Record Book is just paperwork? Think again!
Your record book is actually your ultimate stat sheet, a personal yearbook, and a scrapbook of your favorite moments. Every project you finished, event you attended, and new skill you master each 4-H year is an epic achievement unlocked!
We want to show you exactly how to turn tracking your year from a chore into a total celebration. All 4-H members, parents, volunteers, and clubs are officially invited to our hands-on workshop:

🍀 Record Keeping CAN Be Fun! Workshop

📅 When: Thursday, October 29, 2026
⏰ Time: 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM - Open drop-in hours, for information as needed. You do not have to stay from 5-8. There will be a couple of activities, but it's more about getting the information and help you need.
📍 Where: North Country Resource Center (Granite State Conference Room) | 629 Main Street, Lancaster, NH
👥 Who: All Coös County 4-H Members, Volunteers, Clubs, and Parents!

What We Will Cover:
• Why Keep Records?: Learn how documenting your 4-H journey helps you build confidence, see how much you've grown, and sets you up for future county awards or scholarships.
• What Goes Inside?: We will break down your record book forms step-by-step.
• How to Make It Fun!: Discover playful ways to tackle each section. We’ll show you how to turn your records into a creative project you actually look forward to filling out!

Celebrate this day of National 4-H Week. Share your "why" in the comments

Today I want to remind you of something that can be really easy to forget somewhere between the meetings, practices, projects, contests, deadlines, early mornings, late nights, wins, losses and everything else that comes along with raising a 4-H kid.

Remember their why.

Before they cared about banners, buckles, scores, placings or whether their name was called, there was a reason they wanted to do this in the first place. Maybe they fell in love with an animal and begged you until you finally gave in. Maybe they wanted to learn to sew, cook, shoot, build something, grow something or stand in front of a room and somehow find the courage to speak. Maybe their best friend joined. Maybe you grew up in 4-H and couldn’t wait to give them the same childhood you had. Or maybe they walked into their first meeting knowing absolutely nothing except that they wanted to belong to something.

Whatever their why was, protect it. Because somewhere along the way, it can become really easy for us grown-ups to make it about everything except the reason they started. We see the money we’ve spent, the miles we’ve driven, the hours we’ve put in and the opportunities sitting in front of them. We know what they’re capable of, so naturally we want them to succeed.

But sometimes success looks a whole lot different through the eyes of a kid. Sometimes the biggest win isn’t hanging on the wall. It’s the shy kid who finally raises their hand. The child who didn’t quit when something got hard. The one who learned how to lose and still walked over to congratulate a friend. The kid who found their people. The one who discovered something they’re really good at. The one who learned that hard work doesn’t guarantee a win, but it’s still worth doing.

One day there won’t be another project to finish, another meeting to get to or another fair circled on the calendar. They’ll grow up, just like we did. And when they look back on these years, I hope the first thing they remember isn’t where they placed. I hope they remember why they loved it.

So on this day of National 4-H Week, ask your kid why they chose 4-H. And if you’re one of us who grew up under that little green clover, tell me yours. What was your why? 🍀🤍

A simple, cohesive way for youth, professionals, volunteers, alumni & supporters across the country to celebrate their 4-H program being Beyond Ready. Wear a green hat, clothing, face paint - anything green goes. Let's paint the nation GREEN, on Monday, October 5th!

How can you Go Green?
Wear green clothing
Decorate your office or classroom green
Light up your home with green light bulbs
Be creative and show us what you’ve got!

Be on the lookout for Coös County 4-H Clubs! They will be putting up their “Go Green” themed window and yard displays up around the county today and they will be up all week.

If you happen to go by one of these displays, don’t hesitate to post a photo to Facebook and tag us -H as well as !

Hello Coös County 4-Her's, friends and families. We have 3 NEW and exciting outdoor Wildside Challenges for you! Any youth can participate. They do NOT have to be a 4-H Member, but they do need to register. Details and registration can be found on our website: https://extension.unh.edu/new-hampshire-4-h/pathways/healthy-living/outdoor-education/wildside-challenges

1. Fall Skills Challenge: This challenge helps you practice some of the skills you have been learning by participating in Wildside Challenges throughout the year. You can participate even if you haven't done any of the other previous challenges.
Choose 4 skills from the list located in the logbook. Engage in discussions with your group about why these skills are important after choosing your 4 skills. Don't forget to take pictures!

2. Fall Ecology Scavenger Hunt: Get outside and learn about ecology, wildlife and seasonal changes.
Pick 4 items from a list in the logbook to observe, photograph and discuss how these seasonal and environmental changes affect wildlife.

3. Fall Fitness Challenge: Fall is a great time to get in some physical activities. Go for a last boat ride, hike the bike trail, or go on an extended hike.
Pick 4 items from a list in the logbook to participate in and photograph what activities you did.
