Nonprofit Resource Network

Comments

Hi! I am the founder and ED of a small, fairly new nonprofit that serves the foster care community in eastern PA. We are just about to close on a new property where we will have room to grow and expand our free services. It's all very exciting, but also very intimidating to be undertaking this financial endeavor.

I do not come from a NP background but have had success growing The Kindness Project: A Foster Care Resource. However, these coming months are feeling a little overwhelming, as I know I will need to ramp up the fundraising efforts to cover our increased costs.

I'm reaching out to the group to see if you have any resources to share on how to develop a successful capital fundraising campaign for our operational and capital expenses. Or have you found effective ways to tap into local grants/funds/foundations even as a young NP?

I applied for one grant in the fall, but since we had not held our 501(c)3 for quite a year (1 year anniversary is this week!), we don't have a long financial history to share. I see this might be a hindrance to us for a few years until we can prove our worth.

Thanks for any advice or input! I'm a sponge! :)

December 18: Moving Beyond Collaboration
If there were a silver lining to the tragedies of this year, it would be the increase in the desire of many nonprofit organizations to come together in a deeper, more strategic way to develop a common path forward. True collective impact initiatives share a common vision, shared measurements, and partners who are willing to examine their own perceptions as well as the role their organizations can best play in a plan to not only improve service delivery, but also to examine the beliefs and structures that consistently hinder people who are trying to climb out of poverty. Join us to discuss how the full adoption of the collective impact model can help more people in need by building a more powerful, efficient safety net across the county. Facilitated by Ross Polvara.
