More than 46,700 VCE volunteers contribute well over 1,150,000 hours of service in 2025.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, passion, and expertise our volunteers bring to Extension.

During this National Volunteer Week, thank you to our 4-H volunteers, Northern Neck Master Gardeners, and Northern Neck Master Naturalists for their service in our counties!

We had a great time at Lancaster County Early Childhood Education Center for our 4-H LEAP lesson today. We read the book One Bean, made observations about a bean, and planted beans in a jar. Then, we snacked on fresh green beans.

Several of our learners said they are going to tell their families to buy green beans at home! We also got to see our greenhouse ornaments growing.

New 4-H Family Program!

Research shows that the act of preparing and eating food together connects people. The 4-H Cooking Connections program is for households who are interested in learning new recipes, cooking together, and engaging in connection activities.

Families who sign up for this program will receive a kit each month including a recipe with the majority of the necessary ingredients, along with a connection activity, at no cost. Families will need to pick up their kit each month, as well as complete a short survey of their experience and send photos of family members engaging in the program.

Households with children ages 5-19 are encouraged to participate.
The program will start in May.
