🎶 ANCHORED IN MUSIC: FAITH, MOTHERHOOD, AND WORSHIP – MACKENZIE CAMPBELL ’17

For Mackenzie Campbell ’17, a life rooted in Christ means returning to Him again and again—in seasons of growth, grief, motherhood, and everything in between.

Now a worship leader and musical artist known professionally as Mackenzie Paige, she carries the faith foundation shaped in part by her years at Lancaster Mennonite. Her teachers’ stories of God’s faithfulness helped her see how Christ meets us in the everyday—and that truth continues to shape her music and ministry today.

In the midst of young motherhood and a growing creative career, Mackenzie is learning what it means to surrender, trust and remain anchored in God’s unchanging character.

“The older I get, the more aware I become of my need for Christ. Each day I have to plant my feet on the truths of who God is and who I am in Him.”

Her journey has included both profound joy and deep loss, yet through it all, she continues to cling to God’s goodness and presence. Her newest song, Mother(s) hood, reflects her own experience of motherhood and the ways God continues to refine and meet her there.

Her encouragement to current LM students? "Lean fully into God, trust His presence in every season, and remember that His goodness never runs out." 💛🖤

“Relationships are sacred.” — Jonathan Charles ’70

For Jonathan Charles ’70, being rooted in Christ has looked different throughout the seasons of his life. But one thing has remained constant: a strong commitment to Jesus and the community of faith around him.

After graduating from LMH in 1970, Jonathan carried the foundation of his Christ-centered education into college, family life, teaching, photography, business, and his church community.

One of the most meaningful seasons came through an unexpected source of healing. After a painful church division, new relationships with immigrant families from the Karen community of Myanmar helped bring renewed hope and connection as they were welcomed into their church community at Habecker Mennonite Church.

“They think we saved them, but truly they saved us,” Jonathan reflects. “That’s the way it is in church. God uses people to bring healing to our souls. Relationships are sacred.”

Today, Jonathan and his wife, Rhoda (Reinford) Charles ’72, continue to invest deeply in their church and in LM. With four generations of their family connected to LM—including six grandchildren currently enrolled—their story is a beautiful reminder that faith is lived in community, across generations and through every season of life. 💛🖤

7️⃣0️⃣ years of friendship, memories and connection! 💛🖤

The Lancaster Mennonite School Class of 1956 gathered at Landis Homes on September 12 for their 70th class reunion! Of the 73 students who made up their graduating class, 20 classmates were able to join the celebration—including two who participated via Zoom.

Classmates traveled from Oregon, Virginia and Delaware to be together, while Ruth Ann Stoltzfus and Richard Glick joined virtually from New York near the Vermont border. What a testament to the lasting friendships formed during their years at LM!

At their 50th reunion 20 years ago, the class had lost just one classmate. Since then, 26 more classmates have passed on to glory. As they gathered again, the Class of ’56 had the opportunity to remember those who have gone before them while celebrating the friendships and memories they continue to share.

We’re grateful to the Class of 1956 for sharing this special reunion with us—and for being part of the Lancaster Mennonite story for 70 years! 💛🖤

Rooted in Trust, Serving in Every Season 🌿

Barbara Keener Reed ’52 looks back on her years at Lancaster Mennonite with deep gratitude for the foundation they provided for a lifetime of faith and service.

From 15 years of ministry in Africa with her late husband, Harold E. Reed ’52, to serving as a nurse and caring for Harold through his journey with Alzheimer’s, Barbara has experienced seasons of uncertainty, challenge, grief, and joy—all rooted in trust in God.

Today, she continues to encourage others through prayer, devotional messages, and her memoir, Standing on Holy Ground and Some Not So Holy.

Her advice to today’s LM students? “Follow Jesus and root yourself in Him. The benefits are out of this world!”

Rooted Together: A Lifetime of Faithful Service 🌿

Jim ’64 and Beth (Kling) Leaman ’64 first met as students at Lancaster Mennonite—and nearly six decades later, their shared journey continues to be marked by faith, service, and God’s faithfulness.

From 25 years of Mennonite Voluntary Service and ministry in Philadelphia to their current season at Landis Homes, Jim and Beth have embraced each chapter with trust in God and a commitment to serving others.

Their LM legacy continues through their daughter, Maria Bowman ’94, and three grandchildren who are LM graduates, including Leah Bowman ’20, Nathan Bowman '24, and Jared Bowman '25.

Their encouragement to today’s students? “Keep Jesus central. Listen for God’s Spirit, stay connected to other believers, and love and serve others—especially those who are different from you.”
