Mr. Farina visited the Arecibo Radio Observatory in 2007 as a student teacher. as the largest radio telescope in the world capable of doing radar, this historic telescope has provided the ability to do a unique set of tasks including protecting the Earth from near Earth asteroids for many decades. After years of low budgets and the result of a failure of two of the main cables supporting the structure, it has been decommissioned and will be disassembled once a plan has been determined. Parts of the telescope will be salvaged as possible as all of the main scientific instruments are still in working order.

Great illustration to find comet NEOWISE!
We may get clear sky in some areas tonight, so here is an updated finder chart for Comet NEOWISE. It is getting higher in the sky, a little over 2 bowl depths from the bottom of the Big Dipper. The Moon has returned to the sky, which doesn't help since it makes the sky brighter. The comet is moving away and getting dimmer, so take a look if you can. The forecast is better for tomorrow night, but the Moon will also be brighter.

This is one of my favorite deep sky objects, and is only visible during the summer and early fall of each year, so the time to view it is NOW!
The image in the thumbnail below was taken by me in 2017 at the Cherry Springs Star Party at the Cherry Springs State Park in Northern Pennsylvania.
Have you seen Lagoon Nebula through a telescope? Do you love this DSO as much as I do?!
