House of the Rising Sun

In this guitar lesson with my student this morning we worked on House of the Rising Sun. A nice arpeggiated guitar piece in Aminor played by Hill Valentine. The piece is in 6/8 meter. This song charted twice in 72’ and ‘82.

Randy Rhoads
12•6•1956-3•19•1982

Randy has left an amazing legacy behind and has touched many generations of young guitarists listeners of many skill levels and ages. A classically trained musician who elevated the electric guitar with his passions, creativity, skill and absolute love for the guitar.

More so, he was a great hearted person who cared and cherished life. He had a strong sensibility for teaching guitar and being kind to others. His reach goes far beyond the realm of guitar playing through the lives of the people he still touches to this day.

His Sister Kathy is an extension of his legacy that she carries with thoughtfulness, love and strength. Gos Bless the Rhoads family with prayers and admiration.

I hope everyone is doing awesome today! In these videos I am going over some left handed exercises with right hand alternate picking coordination utilizing a simple chromatic scale which gets the student familiar with using a specific finger per fret based on position which helps to build finger independence and dexterity. Also to keep fingers down while playing ascending and descending.

The other video works on using 2 finger combinations to further build independence and dexterity. Such as 1st and 3rd or 3rd and 4th finger combinations.

Blackbird 🐦‍⬛

Happy St. Patrick’s everyone! In one of my morning lessons today me and my student worked on Blackbird by the Beatles. This was Paul McCartney’s first finger style guitar piece. He was inspired by the piece Bourée in Eminor written by Johann Sebastian Bach for this guitar accompaniment.

This is a great piece for finger style guitar on the acoustic steel string or acoustic nylon. The piece helps to practice double stops and a consistent pedaling of the open g string.

Some Sunday Teaching Chili Peppers “Can’t stop” and a Nirvana Cover from David Bowie “The Man Who Sold The World” to two of my students. They absolutely rock for how little they have been playing! I am grateful to be teaching and playing different styles of music than what moves me to play actually keeps me on my toes. You can learn a lot from different styles of music.
