Jackson Middle School continued a tradition that has become part of the school year. Students and staff gathered outside for the school’s annual Sept. 11 commemoration and flag-raising ceremony with the City of Lancaster, PA's Lancaster City Bureau of Fire and Bureau of Police Lancaster City, PA, marking 25 years since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

For most of the students standing there, 9/11 is history. The annual ceremony gives them a chance to reflect on what happened and the people who stepped forward in the days that followed.

The flag was raised as the Jackson community stood together in remembrance. On the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, Jackson Middle School and the School District of Lancaster continue to remember.

September is on the horizon and we are making new friends and learning more each day!
We thank our parents who joined our North Bay meeting and for all of the work they have done to ensure we make it to school every day!

A few words from our new AP:

Hello Jackson Middle School Family!

My name is Edalmira Rivera, and I am incredibly excited to be joining the Jackson Middle School family as an Assistant Principal. I wanted to introduce myself and share a little about who I am beyond the title.
My SDoL Roots 🏫
For me, joining Jackson truly feels like coming home. I am a proud product of SDoL and attended and graduated from this very school when it was still Edward Hand Junior High School.

SDoL has been part of my family’s story for decades. All four of my siblings are McCaskey graduates—Classes of 1983, 1985, 1987, and 1991—and I followed in their footsteps. I later returned to SDoL to begin my career as an educator. Nearly two decades later, after continuing my journey as an educator and administrator in York City and most recently serving as an Assistant Principal at ELANCO, returning to SDoL—and especially to Jackson—is an incredible full-circle moment.

My Family ❤️
I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Daniel, for 29 years. We met at McCaskey during my sophomore year, and he is a proud McCaskey Class of 1995 graduate. Daniel also recently retired from the military after 29 years of service—apparently 29 is a pretty significant number in our household! 😊
Together, we have three amazing children!

A Little More About Me 🎶🎮🚙
Outside of education, I love music and dancing, DIY projects, photography, DJing, gaming on both PC and PS5, and old-school cars. And then there are my Jeeps! If you spend enough time around me, you’ll quickly discover that Jeeps are more than vehicles in my world—they’re a hobby, a community, and another way I enjoy connecting with people and giving back through community events and service.

At my core, I value family, relationships, authenticity, culture, community, and laughter. Those values are also at the heart of who I am as an educator and leader. I believe schools should be places where both students and adults feel seen, valued, supported, and comfortable being authentically themselves.

From Hand Junior High student, to McCaskey student, to SDoL educator, and now back home as a Jackson Assistant Principal—this truly feels like coming full circle. I’m excited to be home and even more excited to begin this next chapter with all of you!
