Did you know that October is ?

Last Thursday, Center Director of Archives Logan Cocklin and USCL Medford Library Instruction & Outreach Librarian McKenzie Lemhouse facilitated the first session of the Community Archivist Workshop Series, teaching attendees how to preserve their own histories. The first session included a background on archives and information on how to select items for preservation, with examples of items from USCL and Native American Studies Center Archives.

Happy October, Lancers! We have another month of fun and educational programming lined up - check it out:

*October 5-8: Freedom to Read Celebration with events all week!
*October 19 & 20: Pumpkin Painting Days! We partnered with our friends in Student Life to host the official campus pumpkin painting contest again this year! Drop by 11 AM - 2 PM either day to decorate real or foam pumpkins. Consider entering the contest, with prize winners announced at the Costume Contest!
*October 28: We're hosting the official campus Costume Contest again! Compete for prizes or come cheer on your classmates 12:15 PM - 1 PM on the patio!

This is all in addition to our Community Archivist Workshop Series with Director of Archives Logan Cocklin and Instruction & Outreach Librarian McKenzie Lemhouse, which starts TONIGHT! 🤩

We're joining libraries and schools celebrating Banned Books Week around the US withdrop-in and scheduled programming next week! We hope you'll join us in celebrating intellectual freedom with the following activities:

*Monday, Oct. 5 from noon to 4 PM: A Banned Books Read-In! Drop everything and read your favorite "banned" book or discover a new favorite from our sampling menu of frequently challenged books! The read-in lasts all afternoon so you can drop the library by whenever best fits your schedule that afternoon (or participate from afar!)
*Thursday, Oct. 8 from 10:30 AM to 2 PM: "Banned" Books Petting Zoo at Founder's Hall! Learn about challenges to intellectual freedom with library & Humanities faculty! We will have treats and Banned Books swag! 🙂
*All week: Drop by for crafts celebrating self-expression and freedom to read (including paper bag book covers, DIY bookmarks, and DIY buttons!)

This is a gentle movement & meditation workshop led by the amazing Sabina Fernandez. No prior experience with yoga or meditation is needed, and this workshop is adaptable for a diverse range of abilities. This workshop will be tomorrow, September 28 from 12:10 PM - 1:00 PM.
