George Ross Elementary School Welcome to Ross ES, home of the Ross Rockets in SDoL. Welcome to George Ross Elementary… a unique and special place where our children learn, grow and succeed!

We are committed to creating a collaborative school community that works to forge rigorous engaging learning opportunities for our students. George Ross Elementary is the heart of a child-centered community. From the mission statement of our school, to the actions of our staff and dedicated parents, we truly believe in this statement: “Together We Can." Nestled in the northern end of the city of Lancaster, we are a true neighborhood school and so much more. At George Ross, we empower our 225 students to reach their highest potential in a positive, supportive and child-centered learning environment each day from 8:40 AM-3:15 PM. Our dedicated staff of 40 is committed to working with our families to help each and every student reach that potential. At George Ross we focus on the following educational practices:
Educating the whole child and addressing each learner’s needs. Using data and best practices to select, adjust, and deliver instruction. Providing on-going professional development for staff. Collaborating with our community to offer various learning activities. We also believe literacy is the foundation to develop expertise in math, reading, and writing. Science, with its “hands-on” approach, encourages discovery, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Our hope is that you will immediately feel a sense of community when you walk through the doors of our school. Parents and community members are truly valued at Ross and we encourage you to get involved. George Ross is truly a special place where dreams are realized and success is achieved! We welcome you! Tomorrow, September 12, there will be a food giveaway at 312 E. Ross St (the former Ross Street United Methodist Church). Pickup begins at 10:30 am until boxes are gone, first come first served. Please enter the church parking lot from Ross St.

NO paperwork will be needed!

In recognition of Labor Day, school will be closed Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 7. Classes will resume Tuesday, Sept. 8. We hope our SDoL families enjoy a safe and restful holiday weekend!

The first day of school is here, and we’re ready to welcome our students back to the School District of Lancaster!

Students in grades K-6, Martin School grades 7-8, and McCaskey High School grade 9 begin Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Students in grades 7-8 at Jackson, Lincoln, Reynolds, and Wheatland middle schools, along with McCaskey grades 10-12, begin Wednesday, Aug. 19.

We know first-day photos are part of the tradition, and we want to see yours. Share your photos in the comments or tag SDoL in your posts so we can celebrate the start of the 2026-27 school year with you.
