Lancaster Country Day School

On Tuesday, the Rotunda of the Pennsylvania State Capitol hosted the unveiling of 𝙈𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, 𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙬𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 – a landmark statewide art project designed to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Featured within the historic artwork is an original collage by our very own Carter H. ‘29!

Carter traveled to Harrisburg for the ceremony alongside his family and members of our art faculty. They joined First Lady Lori Shapiro, mural designer Caroline Melillo, and representatives from the Pennsylvania Art Education Association and Pennsylvania Creative Industries to mark the occasion. Governor Shapiro also joined the gathering, taking time to speak individually with each student about their contribution.

Seeing Carter’s work enshrined at the State Capitol is a proud reminder of what happens when students are encouraged to think deeply, create bold artwork, and share their perspective with the world.

Our College Counseling team invites all LCDS Middle and Upper School parents/caregivers to join us for a summer book discussion on 𝘿𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 by Jeff Selingo!

This book highlights 75 colleges and universities identified as “hidden-gem” institutions, offering incredible value and rich opportunities.

During our book club gathering, college admission reps from featured schools will join us to discuss key ideas, share their thoughts, and answer your questions.

Whether your student is just beginning to explore their options or preparing to dive into the application process, this session will offer practical guidance for every stage of the journey!

"Horizons is her happy place." → That's what one parent shared at the bus stop as her daughter arrived for her ninth summer here on campus.

This summer marks our 12th year hosting Horizons at LCDS. In partnership with the School District of Lancaster, this program brings 135 students in grades K-8, alongside a high school cohort, to our campus for a summer of academic enrichment.

The true magic of the program is the community driving it. We're proud to say that our campus is currently filled with current LCDS student volunteers working side-by-side with LCDS alumni who have returned to serve as classroom teachers. We're honored by this enduring partnership with SDOL – and the legacy of leadership that Horizons at LCDS has become known for.

Walking onto the stage at Carnegie Hall is a defining moment for any artist – doing so as a 7th grader is nothing short of extraordinary.

This month, Naomi S. ‘31 traveled to New York City to accept a National Gold Medal in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Her journey began at the regional level, where her photography earned a Gold Key and then advanced to the national jury.

Out of more than 335,000 original works submitted by 110,000 students nationwide, only about 2% receive national recognition. Because the competition spans 7th through 12th grade, Naomi was competing alongside high school Seniors – making her selection as one of the very few 7th grade medalists truly exceptional.
