SDoL PreK

Following our field trip to Lake Tobias Wildlife Park, students in Ms. Hall and Ms. Estrella‘s class built animal habitats for some of the animals they got to see on the trip. Their first task was to learn important facts about their animals from their visit. Next, students used that knowledge to add specific elements to each habitat; just to name a few, there were structures for the monkeys to climb on, natural shade elements for the lions, and tall trees for the giraffes to feed from. Future zoologists in the making! 🦒🦁🐒

This week, our SDoL community has been filled with moments of celebration. As we celebrated the McCaskey High School's Class of 2026, many of our students, staff and families also began observing Eid al-Adha.

Eid al-Adha is a time of reflection, sacrifice, gratitude and community. To those who are observing this holiday, we wish you a meaningful and peaceful Eid.

Throughout the year, our PreK students have the opportunity to engage in various programs that provide valuable and enriching experiences both in and outside of the classroom. This year, Mrs. Gebhard & Ms. Alvin chose to have the Demuth Foundation visit their classroom to teach the students about art and creativity. The Demuth Museum “preserves and promotes the groundbreaking work of American artist Charles Demuth; showcases the work of local, national, and international artists of the Lancaster community; and inspires new generations through its programs”.

The visit went so well, the students were invited to visit The Demuth Museum in return!
During their visit they read an interactive book about museums, used their 5 senses to explore some of Demuth’s paintings, practiced drawing a still life object in their new art journals, and used shapes to create unique artwork in a small group. The trip came to a close outside in the beautiful garden that provided inspiration for Demuth’s many floral paintings. 

Creativity is flourishing from PreK to Wheatland Middle School! Mrs. Black’s PreK class teamed up with Ms. Black’s middle school class to collaborate on writing the book, The Magic of Handprints. Each PreK and middle school pair picked a certain animal to write about while incorporating themselves into their own adventures. This mother-daughter duo is making a huge impact by inspiring fun and productive work within our community and influencing future home-grown authors! 📚📝💟

The countdown to summer is almost here! Friday, May 29 marks the last day of school for students. Please note the dismissal times as we wrap up another school year together.

Miss Welsh and Mrs. Glover's PreK zoologists welcomed the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary to Hamilton Elementary School yesterday! Curiosity and bravery filled the room as they were encouraged to learn more about the reptiles through their sense of sight and touch. They also practiced making happy sounds like "ooooh" and "aaahhh" when each reptile was shown as not to scare them with their sweet, excited screams. 🐍🐢🦎🐊
