ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: In this workshop, we will explore ways to use our voices to express ourselves and tell our stories, while also briefly surveying key Latinx voices that speak from and about the experiences of living on the linguistic borderlands of Spanglish. In the words of Chicana activist and scholar Gloria Anzaldúa, “Until I can take pride in my language, I cannot take pride in myself.” In other words, to empower ourselves we must feel empowered in our languages. This workshop seeks to empower Spanglish speakers by providing them with a creative space to write 3-5 minute monologues that celebrate and validate their use of Spanglish as a form of self-expression.
Monologues from this workshop can be performed at the Teatro Paloma Community Talent Show on March 4th, 2022!

Willow and I had fun with a gel plate tonight.
Today's the last chance to view 'Creativity Belongs to the People', a collaborative mural created by PCA&D - Center for Creative Exploration Urban & Public Art class led by instructor Adam Serrano, on the Lancaster Museum of Art portico!

As quoted by PCA&D, "A group of young Center for Creative Exploration students has an important message about creativity: Creativity isn’t the “possession” of any one special group. You don’t have to be “chosen” to be creative. The act of being creative, these 7th- through 9th-graders confirm, belongs to everyone." 'Creativity Belongs to the People', a collaborative mural created by PCA&D - Center for Creative Exploration Urban & Public Art class led by instructor Adam Serrano, is now on view at the Lancaster Museum of Art portico! 7th- through 9th-grade artists in the Center for Creative Exploration's Urban and Public Art class had a message for the rest of us: Creativity isn't a special thing that only certain people can access or express.

👏 Now the mural they created under the guidance of instructor Adam Serrano is moving from the PCA&D Art Garden to Lancaster Museum of Art through Sept. 30. Learn more about the process behind "Creativity Belongs to the People,” at https://loom.ly/nlzSA7A.

A collaboration between PCA&D’s Center for Creative Exploration and @teatropaloma has inspired two new, never-before-offered CCE classes for adults and teens this Winter: ⠀

How to (Un)Tame the Wild Tongue: Intergenerational Monologuing in Spanglish gives expression and importance to a language born out of the experience of being “ni de aquí, ni de allá” – neither from here nor from there. Taught by scholar, actor, and founding Teatro Paloma member José Guillermo Rodriguez-Plaza, How to (Un)tame the Wild Tongue’s two-Saturday workshop can lead up to a live performance in March. ⠀

Theater Games for the Overworked Person uses theater as a tool to unlock self-expression in ways that we often don’t often clear time and space to explore. Educator/scholar/actor Jade Cintrón says performance isn’t the end goal: Instead, the one-session workshop gives participants the opportunity to get beyond life “getting in the way,” beyond stress. ⠀

Curious to learn more? Check out interviews with Cintrón and Rodriguez-Plaza at the link in bio.
