As we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11 this week, we remember MTHS alumna Jean Hoadley Peterson ‘64, who, alongside her husband Don, was a passenger on Flight 93. Jean was a mother of three daughters, registered nurse, nurse educator, and community and church volunteer. To honor their friend, members of the MTHS Class of 1964 established the Jean Hoadley Peterson Memorial Fund with MTEF. This fund supports a variety of programs, including career exploration in the health sciences, initiatives that build awareness and understanding across communities, and a presentation every four years to help high school students learn about the events of 9/11 that forever impacted our country.

In observance of the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Jean’s classmate, Joe Moore, has pledged to match new donations made to this fund by December 15, 2026 up to $25,000. We invite the MTSD community to make a contribution to this fund that keeps alive Jean's legacy of caring and honors the memory of all 9/11 heroes.

Donations can be made by visiting mtef.net/jhp2026 or by sending a check made out to MTEF with Jean Hoadley Peterson Memorial Fund noted in the memo to: MTEF, 450A Candlewyck Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Courtesy of Manheim Township Historical Society and Benton Webber MTHS ’79, today’s photos and history highlight the old Eden Hotel site, now known as BierHall Brewing. Join us there this coming Thursday, August 13, between 5-8 p.m. for our Alumni Meet-up and experience it for yourself!

Initially opened in 1850 by Samuel Beecher as tavern, "the building served as a gathering place for auctions and other community business. Ownership changed hands as did the establishment’s name.

For a while ‘Vittles n Grog’ offered food and drink. Then in 1985, the establishment closed up nearly all the windows and created the local dance club, known as ‘The Juke Box.’ In 2021, it was slightly changed and given a new name ‘Club Twenty 3.’ In 2023, the windows were reestablished, and the Township’s first brewery ‘Bierhall Brewing’ beckoned customers with a new era of libations, sustenance, and conviviality. "

MTHS Science teacher Allison (Zima) Noecker '99, with grant funding from Manheim Township Educational Foundation, gave students in her Anatomy & Medical Technology and Advanced Anatomy & Physiology classes the opportunity to experience course curriculum in 3D, using MANIKEN® models, a unique hands-on learning resource. By shaped muscles, nerves, vessels and organs from clay and layering them onto scale models, students were able interact with the structures of the body to a degree that is simply unattainable with paper diagrams. Pre- and post-test data support the effectiveness of the models in students' knowledge proficiency and engagement. In fact, this spring MTEF approved a second grant request funding additional models to accommodate increased course enrollment for the upcoming school year.

In classrooms across the district, Manheim Township alumni are teaching, challenging and nurturing the next generation of Blue Streaks. We're proud to share their contributions to MT's tradition of educational excellence by highlighting alumni staff and MTEF 'Great Idea' grant awards.

to America's last milestone birthday celebration, as commemorated in the 1976 Neff-Vue yearbook. A Lancaster Newspapers article from February 1976 notes that "the senior class is making a time capsule for the new high school annex." Members of the class of ‘76, do you remember what was included in the time capsule?

Happy National Mascot Day to Sir Streaks A Lot!

It’s been 80 years since a Lancaster Newspapers sports reporter wrote that the boys basketball players were “blue streaks” running up and down the court, yet the lion, an emblem of Manheim Township’s earliest days, lives on. In his address to graduates earlier this month, MTHS Principal Dave Rilatt recalled this history and noted the merging of these identities, "The lion honors our historic strength and pride, while the blue streak represents our energy and momentum.”

According to school newspaper records, our mascot appears to have been given the official name “Sir Streaks A Lot” by popular vote during the 2000-01 school year. Special thanks to the Class of 2019 whose gift to MTHS was two lion costumes, thus bringing Sir Streaks A Lot back to Neffsville after an 11-year hiatus!
