What a great morning at the Solvit Academy Children's Business Fair! We had the best time watching the kids proudly display and sell the items they made. We all left with a bag of goodies! Proud to be a part of the Solvit Academy community!

We're so excited for Kerry from Art Matters Studio to return for our spring art session. Our learners LOVE to be creative and she weaves in fun lessons and history for them. See you Wednesday! 😄

One of our favorite lessons inspired by Swiss artist Paul Klee. A great introduction to symmetry, warm and cool colors and blending and creating texture with oil pastels. We will be making this in our Art Beat classes this week and during our Spring Session at @solvitacademy

We watch our learners do it every day!

An Announcement from King George III

For the next few weeks, our Exploration learners are living in Colonial Solvit! King George has something to say to his "loyal subjects" 😉

An Announcement from King George III King George III (Jonathan Groff) is very unhappy about the freedoms that our learners at Solvit have. Will they start a revolution?

Most Likely to Succeed: Preparing Our Kids for the New Innovation Era

I don't like to pick favorites, except when it comes to books. Most Likely to Succeed gives a brief history lesson on the US education system (in an interesting way) and paints an innovative picture of the future. Highly recommend this one! #21stcenturyeducation

Solvit Academy enjoyed this week off for fall break. We’re coming back refreshed and ready to learn. Recharging is important for young minds too 🧠 See you on Monday, Voyagers!

It was the perfect day to head to @centralmarketlancaster ☀️ We value real-world experiences and will be out and about experiencing as much of the city as we can walk 🙌🏻

Our Exploration Voyagers are working on their growth mindset this week! The rubber band represents something that is harder for them to do than others. As they navigate the tough work they have ahead of them, they can look down at their wrist and remember to embrace challenge. You can do it, Voyagers!

One of our Spark Voyagers modeling our question of the year. Do you think the past determines the future?

The modern curriculum 09/13/2021

The modern curriculum

Seth Godin, entrepreneur and author, has been a vocal supporter of our school model. This was a good article on why we focus on learning leadership and curiosity versus fact memorizing.

The modern curriculum We’ve spent 130 years indoctrinating kids with the same structure. Now, as some of us enter a post-lockdown world, I’d like to propose a useful (though some might say radical) way to re…

Solvit Academy encourages students to be Voyagers on their own Hero’s Journey

Our Spark Guide, Melissa, wrote a great article about our Spark program. Check it out! https://figlancaster.com/2021/07/27/solvit-academy-encourages-students-to-be-voyagers-on-their-own-heros-journey/

Solvit Academy encourages students to be Voyagers on their own Hero’s Journey When you think about your schooling experience, what emotions are sparked within you? Maybe you feel a mixture of emotions depending on the particular memory that resurfaces or the scenarios you experienced from year to year. Three excellent examples from the Children’s Business Fair. They each had unique strengths, but they all worked hard. Will your little entrepreneur join us next year? We had so much fun!!

❗️GIVEAWAY ❗️

At Solvit, we spend a lot of time on character development and emotional intelligence. Most people don’t evaluate their friends on the ability to do calculus problems but rather how a person will react when faced with a difficult task or stressful situation. Real world skills > memorization of facts! If calc is your jam, you can learn that here too.

We’re giving away a few tools that we use in the studios to help build social skills and practice self control ⭐️
- @generationmindful mindfulness toolkit
- @i.feel.like.a.bear feelings flashcards
- a copy of Courage to Grow ☺️

To enter: follow this page, like this photo, and tag a fellow parent in the comments! Share in stories to support our awesome community of learners 💕

*Each tag is an individual entry. Local drop off only. Winner will be announced on stories Tuesday at noon. Giveaway not affiliated with any brands or Instagram.

Voyager Spotlight 🔦 Everett
Age: 7
Studio: Exploration
Interests: fishing, baseball, and being outdoors.
Solvit Advantage: Everett is extremely self-motivated and as our youngest Exploration voyager has been one of the most committed to setting daily smart goals and using them to expedite progress. He finished a whole level of ELA in 6 months working entirely independently! Did I mention he’s 7?!? We can’t wait to see what this self-starter, independent-minded hero will accomplish next year!

Voyager Spotlight 🔦 on Cella
Age: 9
Studio: Exploration
Interests: Harry Potter, theater, and hanging with her Nanny and Poppy!
Solvit Advantage: Cella is working through the core skills (reading, writing, and math) material quickly. Our model allows her to move forward academically as she is ready while growing emotionally and socially with her peers. Next year she’ll start many subjects well above her “grade-level”. Go, Cella, go 👏🏻

06/26/2021

We did it!!!! Amazing what a group of young heroes can accomplish. We’ve all been blown away by their growth this year. Counting down the days until we’re back into the studios ⏲ We have a fun (free!) movie night planned - reserve tickets via the link in our bio.

At Solvit, we trust that kids are naturally curious, and we encourage them to work hard, solve their own problems, and learn by doing. A year in and I’m still trying to sort out how to summarize an *entirely different in almost every way* school. Follow along here as I practice it in writing!
