On Tuesday evening, Community Education celebrated the accomplishments of our 36 high school equivalency and 70 workforce preparation students! We are so thankful to be a part of their journey and wish them the best in their next steps.

IU13 Community Education instructor, Gedion Carido, supported his 48 daytime and evening English language learning students in writing letters to their state elected officials. The students, who wrote about the benefits of adult education classes, learned about their state senator and representative and practiced their English through this writing exercise. The letters went out in the mail last week. Talk about civic engagement!

Family Literacy instructor, Heidi Torrens, provided a lesson for ESL parents and their children on butterflies, observing the process from caterpillar to the chrysalis to the butterfly . On Thursday, Heidi's students and other staff members joined her in releasing the butterflies into the courtyard at the Burle building. The Family Literacy program lives out the belief that parents are the first and most important teacher for their children.

On May 15, teachers from the ESL, IELCE, and FLIT programs at IU13 Community Education and Literacy Success Centers came together to showcase the meaningful work and growth achieved through a year of collaboration in their Professional Learning Circle. Their dedication to continuous learning and student success continues to strengthen our programs and community.

Congratulations to our Spring 2026 Teacher Assistant Training graduates! Seven students spent 7 weeks learning about disabilities and how to effectively support our IU13 students in their classrooms.

Lebanon ESL students learned about the Lebanon Transit System on Thursday, 4/16/26. A Lebanon Transit employee came to the classroom to teach students about bus routes, bus fares, and reading bus schedules. Then, students boarded a bus to experience traveling around Lebanon. It was fun and informative!

Another successful presentation provided by Novelty Manufacturing Co. was held on April 7 as part of the Manufacturing Grant. This session took place in Lancaster during evening classes and was delivered in a hyflex format, allowing participants to join either in person or remotely. Attendees included IU13 students, CareerLink and Tec Centro students as well as clients. The presentation fostered deep engagement and generated enthusiastic responses from participants.
