Congratulations to Oliver Parrish, Class of ‘27, as he earned a spot and participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association All-State Festival. This has been almost a year long preparation with audition material coming out last May and going through initial auditions in December, as well as numerous re-auditions for festivals over the past few months. This is no small task, as Pennsylvania is one of the top states musically, and it is a huge honor for Oliver to have made it to this level. He spent three days preparing for this concert with an ensemble of 140+ that will never be made of the exact musicians again.

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Lancaster Catholic High School is once again offering the opportunity for middle school students in the Lancaster Catholic community to participate in our “Day with FPA” on Friday, May 8th, and be featured at our Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 12th at 6:00PM. The purple and gold bands are open to all students in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 and the choir is open to students in grades 6, 7, and 8.

Congratulations to Abigail Klein, a first-year Art & Design student at Alfred University, whose design was chosen for this year’s festival shirts & logo! Abigail wants to dedicate this piece to her dogs, Bernie and Clarence🐾

On January 17, Cecelia Parrish 29’ and Oliver Parrish 27’ traveled to Palmyra Area Middle School representing Lancaster Catholic at the Lancaster-Lebanon Music Educators Association County Orchestra Festival. Cecelia performed alongside 40 other students in the Sinfonia under the direction of Greg Woodbridge who is Associate Conductor of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. Oliver Parrish performed alongside 100 other students in the Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Robert Spence from Elizabethtown College.

On Friday and Saturday, January 23 and 24, Cecelia and Oliver also traveled to the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 7 Orchestra Festival at Dallastown Area High School. They, along with 200+ students practiced and performed alongside students from Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York counties. Both Cecelia and Oliver were in the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Christopher Cicconi from James Madison University.

Lancaster Catholic High School

On Friday, January 16th, Sam Parrish 26’ successfully auditioned for PMEA District 7 Jazz Band at Dover Area High School. He was tasked with learning a prepared solo, as well as using his own musical creativity to play an improvised solo. Sam competed against 15 other Alto Saxophone players from Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Lebanon, Perry, and York County.

The festival will take place at Dover Area High School on March 13-14.

We are proud of Sam and all his hard work in preparing for this audition!
