It’s been 644 days since I last practiced. I know because it was October 22, 2021… our “dating anniversary” and our first appointment with the oncologist. I was holding out hope this was all just a big mistake and we’d be laughed out of the office because of course Nick didn’t have stage four cancer! But he did and you all know the rest of that story.

Yesterday my flute returned to me after some much needed service. I found I had missed it. I actually wanted it back. So today I practiced: Moyse long tones, three octave chromatic scale sprints and an Andersen etude. Took thirty minutes and I am exhausted - physically, emotionally, mentally. But it was the right decision and it is time. I am grateful music is a kind and supportive friend, patiently waiting for me to come back even when I didn’t know if I ever would return.

Congratulations to my flute student Emily on earning 2nd place for her recitation of Julia’s monologue from Shakespeare’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona”. 🎭 👏👏👏

Linden Hall students participated in the 3rd Annual ShakesPeers Festival at the Ware Center at where Delaney '22, Ellen '24, Natasha '25, Ava '23, and Emily '25 recited individual monologues and performed various scenes from Shakespeare's works! Congratulations to all of our students, and a special congratulations to Emily for winning 2nd place for her individual monologue! 🎭💙

This week’s duet is a musical mystery! I am not certain of the composer… I found this charming duet in a stack of “background gig” music from my college days at PLU. My handwritten notes at the top say James Hook duets. However I’m not sure it is by Hook… have a listen and let me know. And if anyone knows who wrote this, please let me know! 🕵️‍♀️
