We love our faculty!

Education can change the trajectory of a life.

For Central Texas College Professor Leighann Temple, that belief comes to life every day through her work in CTCโ€™s prison education program.

A Copperas Cove resident since 2012, Temple has spent 14 years teaching at CTC in a variety of settings from Fort Hood and Central Campus classrooms to service area campuses, online courses and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice facility in Gatesville.

Her work with women in the prison education program has shown her the transformative power of education firsthand. She helps students rebuild confidence, see themselves as capable learners and begin envisioning possibilities for their futures beyond their current circumstances.

Temple is proud to be part of an institution that believes in access, opportunity and second chances and says teaching at CTC has shaped her just as much as she hopes she has shaped her students.

Education can change lives, and Central Texas College is helping make that change possible.

Recently, staff members representing Texas Senator Dr. Donna Campbell toured Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Gatesville to learn more about educational and workforce opportunities available to incarcerated students, including CTC's Prison Education Program.

Through the program, incarcerated students have the opportunity to earn college credentials while building valuable knowledge and skills that can support successful reentry, continued education, and future career advancement.

As the fall semester begins, CTC is offering 23 course sections serving approximately 242 students across the Gatesville units. Students are currently pursuing General Studies associate degrees and Paralegal certificates.

Looking ahead, CTC is working to expand educational opportunities even further. The college has submitted a request to the state's Postsecondary Education Program Advisory Board to add new career and technical education pathways, including:

Business Administration
Welding
Information Technology
Graphic Design

We appreciate Senator Campbell's office taking the time to visit the Gatesville facilities and learn more about the important work being done by Central Texas College to expand access to education and create pathways to success for incarcerated students.

Want to be part of a team that makes a lasting difference in the lives at TDCJ? Join the CTC team and make an impact that goes beyond the classroom.
