Back at it this year… cleaning, organizing, rearranging shop work stations to maximize space for the different classes we offer.
Work in progress. We have had tools that were set aside and used sparingly due to the fact we didn’t a permanent home for them. We are now making homes for them.
We are introducing a Mill & Cabinet course this year. Students are going to get introduced to many new skills. Their first tasks include building shop furniture because every woodworker knows that the first thing they did was build workbenches and workstations.
Our program course list includes:
Principles of Construction— introduction to tools, small project oriented
Construction Technology I— applying skills already know, learning new skills to build tiny homes
Mill & Cabinetry— introduction to skills for cabinets and furniture building
**Construction Tech II** Advance skills learned in Construction Tech I. We had to put this class on hold this year due to the number of new students entering the program last year. The last 3 years, we only had one section of Construction Tech I, but this year, we have 2 full classes. We were able to restructure and still accommodate all the students coming back to the program.
We have the most students we ever had in the LISD program. Our middle school also has a few classes that feeds into our program. Great things are happening there.
We couldn’t do everything without the support of our district and the commmunity.
