Everyone in LCC's Construction Trades program is thankful for some warm weather! Today was concrete day and students poured and finished concrete for the back patio and front step at the house. Check out the photos to see how great of a job they did!

A few weeks ago, the temperatures were in the negatives, and that doesn't exactly lend itself to outdoor work. With that, we would like to give a huge shoutout and thank you to BMS True Value for allowing us to go to their truss plant and see the trusses they are building for the house, and Colorado Department of Transportation in Lamar for allowing us to see how they test concrete cylinders for their roadways. Sometimes in construction, you have to pivot, and it turned out to be a great opportunity for students to learn more about the different areas of construction!

Last week, LCC's Construction Trades instructors Rod and Jake had the opportunity to go to the NAHB International Builders Show in Las Vegas. There were over 81,000 attendees and more than 1,800 exhibitors focused on home building products, tools and tech.

It was a great opportunity to see new products and tools, make connections, and even meet the Perkins Builder Brothers crew! Jake also attended a trade teacher appreciation dinner hosted by Sascho and was able to meet carpentry teachers from all across the country. What an awesome way to learn more about the trade and further build a tool kit for teaching. We are looking forward to implementing some of the things we learned and using some of the new products we saw at the show!

Now that the first new build project is complete, it's time to continue the next project! The students have been framing and working on exterior sheathing for the last two weeks and here are some of the results! It's always great to see walls going up and even better to watch students learn as they go.

We're excited to get the 2024-25 school year started! We will be finishing the current house, as well as starting another new build next door. There will be many new faces in the program this year with lots of work to be done. Keep an eye out for update photos of both houses!

A lot has changed in the last couple of months at the LCC Construction Trades new home build! The trusses are up, sheathing is on, windows and garage doors are installed, and so much more!

It is always fun to look back and see the progress being made by students as they build. Here are some photos that have been taken along the way:

We are so excited to announce that we have two sheds for sale! These were completed by students at Springfield High School as a part of LCC's Construction Trades program. Students in the class worked over the last semester to complete these, and they did a fantastic job! We are so happy to have Springfield and the surrounding schools as partners and we are excited to watch the students and program grow. The sheds are located at Everitt Moore Home Center in Springfield. All proceeds will go directly back into the program for future projects.

A HUGE thank you to Ernie Felzien for teaching these students, leading the way on this project and others, and supplying the materials needed.
