Touch ID Makes a Comeback on Apple’s Foldable iPhone

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to ditch Face ID in favor of Touch ID built into the side button, according to trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This setup, already seen on the iPad Air and iPad mini, helps save space—an important factor in the slim design Apple is targeting.

Set to launch in 2026, the foldable iPhone will reportedly feature a book-style design with a 5.5-inch external display and a 7.8-inch main screen when unfolded. Apple is aiming for a super thin profile between 4.5 and 4.8mm when open, which likely explains the switch from Face ID to a more compact fingerprint sensor.

Rumored features include a sleek titanium frame, liquid metal hinges, dual 48MP rear cameras, and high-density battery cells for better efficiency. Thanks to a special metal plate that distributes pressure, the foldable display is also expected to be nearly crease-free.
