Teacher Spotlight: Miss Melissa!
We’ve been so lucky to have Miss Melissa as part of our team! She has been working in our 3s classroom for the past four years and has been such an amazing asset to our preschool family. Her artistic creativity, patience, and loving personality make her so special to our little learners!
When she’s not at school, Miss Melissa enjoys spending time with her boyfriend, family, and friends. She also loves thrift shopping and antiquing, always on the hunt for a unique treasure!
Thank you, Miss Melissa, for sharing your creativity, kindness, and love with our preschoolers. We appreciate you so much!

Connection over control.

At Jacob Academy, we believe that guiding children isn't about winning a power struggle. It's about helping them learn, grow, and make better choices.

Through Conscious Discipline, we strive to approach challenging moments with connection, empathy, and clear boundaries. When children know we're on their side, even when we're correcting their behavior, we create opportunities for trust, cooperation, and growth.

We're not against the child. We're working together toward a solution.

The shift from "me vs. them" to "we're all in this together," can be impactful, even mid-conflict. It doesn't mean agreeing with the behavior. It means staying on the child's side while you address it, instead of turning the moment into a contest that both of you will ultimately lose.

Teacher Spotlight: Miss Yoana
We’re so excited to shine the spotlight on Miss Yoana! 💕
Miss Yoana began her journey with us in the 4s, then spent time working in the 3s, and has now found her home in our 1s classroom. Her passion for providing quality, nurturing care shines through in everything she does.
When she’s not at work, Miss Yoana loves spending time with her two beautiful daughters and family. She also enjoys running and going to the gym, staying active and making time for the things she loves.
We are so grateful to have Miss Yoana as part of our team! 🌸

Our Conscious Discipline reminder for the week!

When little ones are having big feelings, they often look to the adults around them to know, “Am I safe? Are we okay?”

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can bring into a hard moment isn’t the perfect words—it’s our calm.

At Jacob Academy, we’re continuing to practice being that safe, steady presence our kiddos can borrow from as they learn to regulate their own emotions.

The one thing that changes the whole room the fastest is you. Caption: Kids co-regulate with the adults around them, which means your calm is contagious before your words are.

On the hard days, this is the reminder: you don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to stay regulated long enough for others to feel it and shift.

Our Fall & Winter Menu is here!
One of the things we love being able to offer our families at Jacob Academy is meals and snacks provided right here at the center! No packing a breakfast, lunch, and snacks every morning—we’ve got it covered.
Each day, our kiddos are provided with:
🥣 Breakfast
🍎 Morning snack
🥪 Lunch
🍓 Afternoon snack
And because the safety of our kiddos matters, Jacob Academy is a nut- and egg-free center.
Our new Fall & Winter Menu brings a fresh rotation of meals and snacks for the cooler months, while continuing to make busy mornings just a little easier for our families.
Less to pack. One less thing to think about. And happy, fueled kiddos ready to learn and play!

Weekly Conscious Discipline Reminder
Big feelings don’t always need to be fixed.
When a child is upset, it can be tempting to quickly say, “You’re okay!” or “Don’t cry.” But before children can move through a feeling, they need to feel safe experiencing it.
Sometimes the most helpful thing we can do is simply stay close, name what we see, and let them know we’re there: “You’re really upset. I’m right here with you.”
At Jacob Academy, Conscious Discipline reminds us that connection and safety come first. When children feel seen and supported through their big emotions, we’re helping them build the skills they’ll eventually use to regulate those emotions on their own.

It's tempting to jump straight to solving …"stop crying, it's fine." But feelings need to be felt before they can be worked through. Naming it and staying present usually gets a child to calm faster than any fix would!

Staff Spotlight: Miss Odessa!
We are so proud to brag on Miss Odessa, who has been a wonderful part of the Alkire family for almost 5 years, working in our 4s classroom!
Miss Odessa is a true asset to our school, and we love seeing the care, patience, and dedication she pours into her students each year. She does an amazing job helping prepare her kiddos for kindergarten, giving them the skills and confidence they need for their next big adventure!
When she’s not at school, Miss Odessa enjoys camping, spending time with her family, and cheering on her favorite team—she’s a BIG Broncos fan! One of her favorite people to spend time with is her teenage son, Dominic.
We are so thankful to have Miss Odessa as part of our Alkire family! Thank you for all you do for our kiddos, Miss Odessa! We appreciate you more than you know! 💕

Every moment is a new opportunity to choose again.
One of the things we love about Conscious Discipline is the reminder that we always have the power of choice. As adults, we won’t handle every difficult moment perfectly—and neither will our children. But one hard moment doesn’t have to determine what happens next.
We can pause. We can make a different choice. We can reconnect. And we can model for our children that it’s okay to try again.
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or little learner, you don’t have to wait for tomorrow to start fresh. The next moment is a new opportunity.
