Then-Vice President Richard Nixon highlighted the opening ceremony of
Artesia High School with a dedication speech during the 1954–1955 school year.

Delivered only a few months after the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling, Nixon's speech famously expressed his high hopes that the new campus would serve as a model for educational integration across the country.

Historical Background:

Construction of the Artrsia High campus concluded in 1954.
It initially welcomed only freshman and sophomore classes.

Oldest Active School: It is currently the oldest operating high school in the ABC Unified School District.

Boundary Shift: While the campus was physically located in the
County of Los Angeles, originally not a city, part of Artesia valley when Nixon spoke,.. the land was officially annexed by the
city of Lakewood in 1967.

School Identity: The Artesia High campus retains its original name and honors its local history with the Pioneer as its official school mascot.

Sad news to share ...
Class of 1976 Grad & Homecoming Queen
Debbie Mallock Figueroa Olay .. had been battling health problems
this past year ... she has left this life
and is now in the loving arms of
her creator ... and has finally reunited
with her former husband
Cheyenne Figueroa.

On a personal note, Debbie and I go way
back to kindergarten at Palms Elementary
and then we went on to Tetzlaff Jr High.
I invited Debbie and Chey to help on
our 10 Year Artesia High Reunion committee
in 1986 which they did.
Debbie was a baton twirler ever since
Palms, and she performed for many years.
I never heard anyone speak badly of her,
because she was always a nice person.
I was so happy to see her this past October
at our 50 Year Artesia Reunion.

We send alot of hugs and love to her
Family and friends 🧡

In 1960, Artesia Feed Hay & Grain
(frequently remembered by locals as Marty's Feed N Grain) was a foundational agricultural hub located on Pioneer Boulevard in
Artesia, California.

Situated right by the railroad tracks, it supplied the crucial grain, hay, and lifestyle goods required to power what was then one of the wealthiest milk-producing dairy regions in the United States.

Did you know ?
Parts of the famous California State Route 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) follow the exact path carved out centuries ago by
Spanish missionaries !

This ancient route was called El Camino Real — meaning "The Royal Road" — built to connect all 21 Spanish missions stretching from the north to the south of California.

A trail from the past has turned into one of the most beautiful and admired drives in the whole world ! 🌊
