Job Summary:

Global Crisis Management’s (GCM) mission is to collaborate with key business partners and customers to support all Disney (and its affiliates) employees in building, sustaining and improving Disney’s capability to prepare for, respond to and recover from all hazards. GCM accomplishes its mission by four approaches: plan development, training and exercising developed plans, implementing the use of technology for emergency use and partnership with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities:
•Provide emergency planning technical expertise for plan development, exercises, drills and training.
•Support the Program Manager, Crisis Management on the development and implementation of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program
•Support all Crisis Management enterprise-wide preparedness programming such as building teams, employee engagement, national preparedness month etc.
•Support the activation of enterprise-wide emergency operations as outlined in the Corporate emergency response plan.
•Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
•Excellent personal communication and diplomacy skills.
•Exceptional computer, social media and presentation skills.
•The ability to manage difficult situations, leverage limited resources and design emergency management programs.
•“Can do” attitude.
•ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800

Preferred Qualifications:
•Experience working in an Emergency Operation Center environment.
•ICS 300 and 400 or other FEMA ICS planning and operational classes.

Required Education
•Working on a 4 year degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security or like field.

Preferred Education
•Working on a Masters degree in Emergency Management or Homeland Security

Additional Information:
The duration of this internship is from May/June 2022 through January 2023.

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking at least one class, or be a recent graduate of an accredited college or university within the last 6 months at time of application, or be currently participating in the Disney College Program, Disney Culinary Program or Disney Professional Internship Program

Doctors Feeling ‘Immense Fatigue’: Is Worst of COVID Over?

(TNS) - Dr. Neil Meehan, chief physician executive at Exeter Hospital, said when it comes to COVID-19, the next couple of weeks are going to be tough.

“Even though the omicron virus is less virulent, it is much easier to spread,” he said. “The numbers will be overwhelming. Add to that the cases within our own workforce and it is going to be challenging.”

As the omicron variant of COVID-19 reaches full force in New Hampshire and Maine, medical personnel admit to growing exhaustion.

“There is an immense fatigue, and people are leaving health care,” said Dr. Thomas Wold, chief medical officer at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. “It is still surprising us all at how disproportionally it is hitting us all. It’s like a slow boil that keeps getting bigger. COVID patients are in the hospital, some in the ICU and some coming in through the emergency department. We see increases every week.”

A daily report for Jan. 18 shows the strain at Exeter Hospital, which stated it had 109 staff members out due to COVID-19 exposure or quarantine. Exeter Hospital also reported it had 83 COVID patients with just one remaining intensive care unit bed available.

Exeter’s report indicates that on Monday, three out of five Seacoast region hospitals reported zero ICU beds available and only a total of five open across all five hospitals. Among the nine hospitals serving the I-93 southern corridor in New Hampshire there were only four available beds. Only 26% of hospitalized COVID patients with known vaccination status were fully vaccinated.

(TNS) - Jan. 26 marked 322 years since the last Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and tsunami struck the Pacific Northwest, the Oregon Office of Emergency Management reminds us. This week, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown designated this as “Cascadia Earthquake Preparedness Week” and urged Oregonians to be prepared.

The occasion is as good a reason as any to ask yourself: Are you ready for the Big One?

According to the Oregon Office of Emergency Management, “scientists predict the chances that a mega-CSZ earthquake will occur within the next 50 years are about one in ten.”

The Oregonian/OregonLive has regularly offered guides to preparing ourselves for emergencies, particularly earthquakes. Here are nine ways to assess your preparedness and things you can do now to prepare for an emergency.

Sign up for notifications: Enroll in Public Alerts, Citizen Alert or a service in your county to be notified via text, call or email by emergency response agencies when you need to take action such as shelter-in-place or evacuate.

Bookmark the website or page of the Oregon Health Authority and a local health department that regularly notifies residents of health emergencies and other issues impacting the community. Follow public health departments like OHA that use social media to communicate timely and accurate information.

February is Black History Month

To honor Black History Month, Pierce College students, staff, and faculty are invited to participate in the EDI CARES Black Excellence Celebration on Friday, Feb. 25, from 1-5 p.m. in the Cascade Building Performance Lounge at the Fort Steilacoom campus. This will be a hybrid event.

This year’s celebration will commemorate Black History Month, and celebrate the diversity, ingenuity, talents, and brilliance of Black people across the diaspora. Black people are a people of community, innovation, and resourcefulness, and we wanted to showcase the diversity of Black excellence in our local community, and throughout the state. This year’s event will focus on learning about the Black experience and how to navigate life and work from local Black leaders, entrepreneurs, and social activists in our community.

This event will feature surprise musical performances, a panel of esteemed Black heroes and sheroes from diverse industries such as education, government, and entrepreneurship to share inspiring stories about finding and cultivating their Black excellence. The event will conclude with community building and a Black vendor fair mirroring Black Wall Street in the atrium area of the Student Life Lounge, featuring some of the most prominent Black businesses, as well as key resources in our community. Some of our vendors include Noir Lux Candle Company, Intentions Juice & Smoothie Bar, and more.
