Curious about the future of funding for Jeffco Public Schools? Join us Tuesday evening!

Tuesday, September 22 | 5:00 p.m. in the Open School Theater

Jeffco voters will consider two school funding measures on the November 3 ballot: a Mill Levy Override and a Special Purpose Mill. What would these measures fund? What would they mean for our schools and students? And what questions should voters be asking?

We’re hosting an evening to learn, ask questions, and better understand what’s being proposed.

Our Community Superintendent, Mike Freeman, will join us to help share information and answer questions. The evening is intended to give community members the information they need to make their own informed decisions when they vote on November 3.

This is an informational event, no prior knowledge is needed, and everyone is welcome—not just JCOS families!

We’re Hiring: Elementary Paraprofessional!

Are you someone who loves working with kids, building relationships, and helping students discover that they can do hard things?

Jefferson County Open School is looking for our next great elementary paraprofessional to join our staff community!

This person will:
* Provide one-on-one and small-group academic interventions for elementary students
* Build supportive, encouraging relationships with students
* Supervise elementary lunch and recess
* Work collaboratively with teachers and our elementary team
* Become part of a school community where knowing and caring for students is at the heart of what we do

We’re looking for someone who is warm, dependable, flexible, collaborative, and genuinely enjoys being around children. Experience working with students is wonderful, but we’re especially interested in finding someone who will be a great fit for our community.

Your friendly neighborhood Bridges team is back with some new merch. People have been asking for a colorful option, and we delivered! The new design was inspired by all of the random items left behind after a school trip. We also have the original bus design, beanies and hats, and sweatpants and joggers if you missed your opportunity in buying those.

The proceeds from the sales support the Bridges program for trips, activities, and more.

Did you know the Open School has its own bike shop? Not only do we teach kids how to maintain and repair bikes, but we will now be open for business on most Friday afternoons, from 1-3 (starting tomorrow, Sept 11th). You can bring your ride in for repairs, or, if you need a bike, we have a collection of bikes in a wide range of sizes that have been refurbished and tuned up and they're ready to put smiles on faces. Donations accepted to support the shop. Stop by and check us out!

Come check out the Open School’s community bike shop tonight during New Year’s Eve! We’ll have the shop “Open for Business” on Friday afternoons this year, helping keep your bikes rolling, and getting refurbished bikes in the hands of those who need them.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our dear friend and colleague, Tony Taylor, passed away this afternoon after experiencing brain death resulting from an allergic reaction and subsequent motor vehicle accident last Saturday.

Tony served the Open School as a staff member for well over two decades before retiring in 2020. Since retirement, he has continued to contribute to our community in so many ways; consulting with students, serving as photographer for prom dances, or sharing his musical talents at many events. Anyone who remembers Tony creating peace and calming with the strum of a guitar, inspiring joy with his passion for photography, or teaching and mentoring students on an astonishingly wide array of topics with enthusiasm and love, knows what a profound loss this is for our community and the world.

Tony has been such a bright light in the Open School community—a dedicated teacher and advisor, a kind soul, and a beloved friend to so many. His warmth, wisdom, and care for students and colleagues made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
