Ocean Academy congratulates Lakewood Chief of Police Gregory H. Meyer as he marks over 40 years in law enforcement while serving 10 years as Chief of Police of Lakewood! We sincerely appreciate the strong partnership between Ocean Academy and the Lakewood Police Department. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment where every student can thrive. The dedication, professionalism, and service demonstrated by our School Resource Officers helps to build trust, strengthen community relationships, and provide students with positive role models. We are grateful for the Lakewood Police Department's continued support and look forward to working together for the betterment of all our students.

10 Years as Chief of Police!

Today, the Lakewood Police Department recognizes Chief Gregory H. Meyer as he marks over 40 years in law enforcement while serving 10 years as Chief of Police, a position he assumed on August 1, 2016.

During his tenure as Chief, the Department has continued to grow to meet the needs of our community. More than 40 police officers have joined our ranks, making the Lakewood Police Department the largest and most diverse police department in Ocean County.

The Department has also reestablished its K-9 Unit, which now consists of five K-9 teams, launched the Drone as First Responder (DFR) Program, and is working toward the implementation of a Real Time Crime Center.

Over forty years of service is an accomplishment few reach, and ten years leading one of New Jersey's busiest police departments is a milestone worth recognizing. We thank Chief Meyer for his leadership, his commitment to this Department, and his dedication to the residents of Lakewood.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Gregory H. Meyer on these remarkable milestones.

Congratulations, Chief!

Thank You Lakewood Fire Department! https://www.facebook.com/LakewoodfireNJ Today, Ocean Academy's Safety Team Staff Members attended the free community Fire Expo event that featured live fire safety demonstrations, emergency vehicles, interactive activities, giveaways, and hands-on experiences designed to educate the public about fire safety and emergency response. We got to meet firefighters, explore emergency equipment, and learn more about the work of the fire department in a fun, interactive setting. We spent the afternoon talking to many members of the LFD, EMS, and other members of the community. We think our visit was a positive for our school and we learned quite a bit!

Students in the Garden Club during the school year started all of their plants from seed. They cared for and grew them indoors during the months of March, April and May until they were big enough to transplant and all danger of frost had passed, which is typically Mother's Day weekend. The Garden Club then set up the outdoor planting spaces (all materials and seeds came from donations) and transplanted their young seedlings outdoors where they continued to monitor and care for them until the end of the year while also learning about what plants need and how to best get them to grow.

The summer school students have continued this work during summer school with watering, pruning, pest control, observation and setting up trellises and shade clothing. Through their hard work they have been able to harvest and try a variety of vegetables, like what you saw today - specifically zucchinis, yellow squash, peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers. They also have successfully grown herbs like basil and flowers like marigolds.

The summer school students will continue to maintain the summer crops and will begin to start their fall crops from seed later this week which will include broccoli, cauliflower, onions, winter squash, cabbage and pumpkins which will then continue to be maintained in the Fall by the Garden club. This allows us to keep the garden producing on a year-round basis!
