Yesterday, our kindergarteners set sail to face the Pirates of the Metedeconk River / Barnegat Bay — an Ocean Academy School tradition for the past 9 years aimed at driving away pirates who plunder the waters! Everyone had a wonderful time aboard the Sea Gypsy II, where students also searched for lost treasure chests. Ocean Academy loves Jersey Shore Pirates.

Career Day was a big hit at Ocean Academy yesterday! Ms. Petchers' First Grade class welcomed a martial arts instructor, a nurse, and a music therapist, who shared what they do and why they love their professions. Experiences like these help our students discover the many exciting career paths available to them as they grow and learn.

This time of year is filled with graduation celebrations, and Ocean Academy’s Fifth Graders recently marked a very special milestone of their own! Last month, students proudly graduated from the L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) Program, made possible through the support of the Lakewood Police Department and our School Resource Officer, Michael Del Valle.
This was Ocean Academy’s very first L.E.A.D. graduation, and we could not be prouder! Throughout the program, students gained important life skills such as making positive choices, resisting peer pressure, avoiding drugs and violence, and developing confidence, leadership, and respect for others.
In this photo, Officer Del Valle presents “Diplomas” to each of our 5th Grade teachers in recognition of their dedication and support. We are incredibly proud of our students and look forward to seeing them carry these valuable lessons with them as they begin their middle school journey and beyond.

The 4-H Community-Ecology Club organized a Penny War fundraiser for Ocean Academy Charter School. Students were encouraged to bring in loose change for the chance to sponsor an animal at Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant. Over a two week period, our school managed to raise over $1,000 to help the aquarium in its conservation efforts. The three top performing classes selected Stitch the penguin, Ace the turtle, and Wally the sloth to sponsor. The rest of the funds were delivered to Jenkinson's Aquarium by Ms.Tomkus and Mrs. Mosko, two of the 4-H leaders. The funds our school raised will go towards helping Jenkinson's conservation partners: Save Barnegat Bay, Project Terrapin, and a local whale conservation group. Thank you to everyone who participated in our very successful fundraiser!

Our Second Graders had a great field trip to Point Pleasant's Boardwalk! They got to play arcade games, had pizza for lunch, and the best part of the trip was a visit to Jenkinson's Aquarium, where they learned about ocean life and a few other odd coastal land creatures! Great fun was had by all. Bonus: One Second Grader won 1,000 tickets at the Arcade!
