Saint Joseph High School is thrilled to announce the hiring of Chris Childress as the new Head Basketball Coach for the Jesters! We are confident this is the first step in a new era of Saint Joseph Basketball.
Before joining Saint Joseph, Coach Chris Childress honed his coaching skills at various schools including Mayfair, Bellflower, Orange Lutheran, Capistrano Valley Christian (CVCS), and Servite High School. His greatest strengths lie in teaching, development, mentorship, and creating opportunities for his student-athletes.
Coach Childress embarked on his official coaching career in 2010, driven by a desire to guide student-athletes through the complex journey of becoming college athletes. This endeavor quickly evolved into a deep passion for youth development through sports. Basketball, for Coach Childress, is more than just a game; it is a means to uplift the youth and strengthen their relationship with God. At Saint Joseph, he is committed to merging the realms of sports and faith while fostering a championship mindset.
Renowned for his ability to foster positive growth in basketball programs, Coach Childress left an indelible mark at CVCS by establishing its basketball program as one of the elite programs in Orange County. Within just four years, the program gained recognition as a top 10 program in the county and celebrated the school's first-ever CIF Championship in basketball in 2019. His exceptional leadership earned him the title of CIF Coach of the Year in 2019.
Transitioning to coaching girls' basketball at Saint Joseph is a natural progression for Coach Childress, who is the proud father of three daughters. His experience as a father will help ease this transition, bringing a unique perspective and understanding to the girls' side of the sport, having spent his entire coaching career working with boys.
Prior to his impactful coaching career, Coach Childress enjoyed a professional basketball career in the NBA G League, Europe, and Asia, which laid a solid foundation for his coaching philosophy and techniques.

SJHS is thrilled to announce the newest sport to our CIF line-up. We are honored to have Coach Zoë Skinner here this summer to introduce this exciting sport to our Jester athletes.
Coach Zoë Skinner grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a three sport athlete - soccer, track and lacrosse. She went on to play lacrosse at UNC Chapel Hill on a scholarship. As a Tar Heel, she helped her team reach the NCAA tournament each year and win the program’s first National Championship title in 2013. That year, she was also awarded the Yeardley Love Unsung Hero award for “[exhibiting] leadership as a positive role model and [involvement] in community service.”
Outside of lacrosse, she was actively involved in UNC Athletics Leadership Academy and Community Outreach programs for all 4 years. Some awards from her tenure include:
- Tar Heel Leaders Of Distinction Award recipient (2014)
- Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Community Awareness Award (2014)
- Atlantic Coast Conference Top Six for Service Award recipient (2013, 2014)
She moved to Los Angeles in November 2021 and is an elementary school Librarian and youth lacrosse coach for three separate programs. She is passionate about teaching lacrosse and providing equitable access to the sport. She is excited to help continue to grow the game in California!
Lacrosse will be a spring sport this upcoming school year. Current students please sign up for the summer program at sj-jester.org/summerschool. Please contact our Athletic Director, Mr. Lewis with any questions at [email protected]. The summer program will begin on June 14, we hope to see you out there.

Land of the free, because of the brave. We are thankful for those who served and sacrificed for our country. May God’s love and peace be with them and with their families.
The Mickeys headed straight for the fountain just as their many SJ sisters did before them to celebrate their last day of school! This long-standing SJ tradition is one we hold dear to our hearts as each senior class spends their last moments in Chapel Court together. ❤️
Last school bell for our Seniors… you know what that means! ⛲️❤️
Thank you to for bringing these little furry friends to SJ! Our students had fun unwinding and playing with all of the adorable pups on Jester Field!
