🚨 The countdown is on—the 2026 Ocean County Sheriff’s Youth Academy begins Monday!

We’re excited to welcome this year’s recruits for an unforgettable experience filled with teamwork, leadership, discipline and an inside look at the many roles of law enforcement and public safety.

On Thursday, July 23, Class 126 had the privilege of hearing from retired Irvington Police Sergeant Kenneth Hogan.

In 1994, Sgt. Hogan was shot 19 times by a drug suspect, including four rounds fired at point-blank range, suffering injuries to his head, spine, shoulder, and hand. His remarkable story of survival, resilience, and perseverance has become his gift to the law enforcement profession. For more than 25 years, he has shared his powerful presentation with agencies across the country, including the FBI National Academy.

We are incredibly grateful to Sgt. Hogan for taking the time to share his experiences and invaluable lessons with our recruits. His message of courage, determination, and commitment to the profession leaves a lasting impact, and we thank him for helping prepare the next generation of law enforcement officers.

This Fourth of July, the Ocean County Police Academy wishes everyone a safe and happy Independence Day as we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and honor the courage and sacrifice of those who have defended them throughout our nation’s history.

As we gather with family and friends, we also recognize the dedicated law enforcement officers, first responders, military members, and public safety professionals who serve our communities every day—including on holidays.

Hot temperatures didn’t slow down Basic Recruit Class 126 this week.

Recruits spent the week developing critical patrol skills, including felony stop procedures, while training in the summer heat. Through every scenario, they demonstrated professionalism, discipline, and determination—preparing for the real-world situations they will face as future law enforcement officers.

Today, we celebrate the achievements of 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟭𝟮𝟱 as they reach an important milestone in their law enforcement journey.

As these recruits graduate and prepare to serve their communities, they do so while carrying with them the lessons, values and leadership of Lt. John Tate.

Recruit Class 125 was Lt. Tate’s final assigned class at the Ocean County Police Academy. Although they had only two short months with him before his passing on February 28, his dedication, guidance and impact left a lasting impression on every recruit he instructed.

Today’s graduation ceremonies are dedicated in memoriam to him. His commitment to the profession and the respect he earned throughout the Academy will never be forgotten.

As the officers of Class 125 begin their careers in public service, they will carry forward his legacy of leadership, service and integrity, joining the many recruits before them whose lives and careers were shaped by his mentorship.

Congratulations to 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝟭𝟮𝟱! We are so proud of all of you and wish you all the best in your careers.
