JCEA-R is unified with the Colorado Education Association-Retired (CEA-R) and the National Education Association-Retired (NEA-R) and is an affiliate of JCEA, CEA, and NEA. The benefits of JCEA-R/CEA-R/NEA-R are the same as those for active members (with the exception of coverage by CEA legal services) including: insurance coverage, credit cards, investment programs, and national, state and local publications.

All Democrats on the Senate HELP Committee and Republicans Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) voted to advance legislation that would halt the dismantling of the Department of Education.

CHEER:
86 House Democrats signed a letter urging Secretary of Education Linda McMahon to abandon her plan to transfer the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) to the Department of Justice (DOJ). “The law is clear,” they wrote. “Congress created OCR and OSERS and Congress alone can eliminate them.”

CHEER:
House Education & Workforce Committee Ranking Member Representative Bobby Scott (D-VA) hosted an event on the impact of the Trump administration’s attacks on the student loan system featuring expert analysis of how changes in the system are hurting students and borrowers.

CHEER: Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) introduced and received a vote on an amendment during the S. 2 reconciliation vote-a-rama that would have redirected funds previously appropriated for ICE to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

CHEER: Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) offered and received a vote on an amendment during the S. 2 reconciliation vote-a-rama that would have funded the timely adjudication of DACA renewal applications.

CHEER: Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), and Don Beyer (D-VA) reintroduced the Comprehensive Paid Leave for Federal Employees Act (H.R. 9261), bipartisan legislation to expand federal paid leave to include 12 weeks of family and medical leave.
