Mayfair Senior Earns Second Place in the Nation at SkillsUSA Championship
Mayfair High School senior Namanpreet Kaur Bains has made school history by earning second place in the nation in the SkillsUSA Extemporaneous Speaking competition, becoming the first Mayfair student to earn a national placement in the event.
Extemporaneous Speaking challenges students to think quickly, organize their ideas, and deliver a speech with little preparation. After advancing through regional competition, Namanpreet earned first place at the California State Competition, qualifying to represent California at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
During nationals, Namanpreet completed the first round of competition before flying back to California to attend her Mayfair High School graduation ceremony. While at graduation, she learned that she had advanced to the final round. Determined to compete, she left the ceremony early and flew back to Atlanta in time for the finals the next morning.
Her dedication paid off as she earned second place in the nation, an extraordinary accomplishment that brought recognition to both California and Mayfair High School.
While in Atlanta, Namanpreet enjoyed exploring the city, visiting the College Football Hall of Fame, and trying local food, with Waffle House becoming a favorite. She was especially grateful to have her mother join her for the awards ceremony and appreciated the support of family, friends, and those who followed her journey from home.
Namanpreet credits much of her success to her support system, including her family, friends, SkillsUSA advisor Ms. Adriatico, and Mayfair administrator Dr. Tehrani. She plans to attend a prestigious university and pursue a career as a diplomat, using her voice to advocate for others and create positive change. Her biggest motivations are her parents, who inspire her through their hard work and dedication; her grandparents, who keep her connected to her roots and remind her of the importance of love and family; and her siblings, who are always by her side.
Namanpreet’s achievement is a testament to her perseverance, determination, and leadership.
