Elect people who will take politics out and bring common sense back into the Lakewood Schools.

Appears there are some who are going around spreading lies about the candidates on this slate. If you did not read the Lakewood Observer Reader's Forum here are our qualifications as printed in the last issue when we answered reader's questions.

We totally agree with Trish Hendy on this. As Sir Ken Robinson once said " The Arts in education speak to the areas of the brain in young children that other things do not touch"

Our school district should be enhancing arts education, not cutting it. Here are 10 reasons why arts integration in education is so important:
1. Studying the arts helps learners develop creative problem-solving skills. Integrating art with other disciplines reaches students who might not otherwise be engaged in classwork.
2. The arts provide challenges for learners at all levels.
3. Teaching through the arts can present difficult concepts visually, making them more easy to understand.
4. Music helps children become emotionally balanced and productive adults. Physical movement—like PE—is also vital.
5. Art instruction helps children with the development of motor skills, language skills, social skills, decision-making, risk-taking, and inventiveness.
6. Visual arts teach learners about color, layout, perspective, and balance: all techniques that are necessary in presentations (visual, digital) of academic work.
7. Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
8. education connects students with their own culture as well as with the wider world.
9. A report by Americans for the Arts states that young people who participate regularly in the arts (three hours a day on three days each week through one full year) are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement, to participate in a math and science fair, or to win an award for writing an essay or poem than children who do not participate.
10, Studies have shown that greater arts education led to fewer disciplinary infractions and higher attendance, graduation rates and test scores.

While many of our signs are being targeted by vandals, we are getting a lot of support from Lakewood residents who are displaying our signs in support of our candidacy. We appreciate each one and thank you.

A lot of money is being spent by political organizations to endorse and fund certain candidates in this school board race. You should ask why when the race is supposed to be non-partisan. If you vote for a party endorsed candidate, then you can be rest-assured you will get more of the same from the new school board.
