Tonight on Studio Time with Pete (formerly Guerrilla Recording with Pete) I continue a deep dive into how I got started in professional audio over 20 years ago, with “The Book of Pete Chapter 2”. .
This picture was taken at Loho Recording Studio on the lower east side of Manhattan. I absolutely loved working in this room and made some really great albums there. It is also where I got to record Norah Jones. The live room was the perfect size. Lots of wood with 20+ foot ceilings and 6 iso booths. The control room wasn’t huge, but sounded really good and balanced. The console was a Neve 8048, the same console that Dave Grohl has. This one was loaded with half 1081 mic pre/EQs and half 1054. I would swap the channels around the console to get the sound I wanted for specific instruments as they both had a distinct sound and a very different equalizer. .
I really miss that neighborhood. There were tons of great restaurants and you couldn’t walk down the street without bumping into musicians. I can’t wait to talk about that time period in my life tonight on FB live at 7pm. Cheers! 🍻

Tomorrow (Wednesday at 7pm MDT) on Studio Time with Pete (formerly "Guerrilla Recording with Pete") I’ll continue with the “Book of Pete Chapter 2”. I’ll start with moving to New York City when I was 18, and getting my first job in a commercial recording studio.
20 years ago was such an amazing time to be in The City. There was so much and everywhere. The people I met and the experiences I had, made me who I am today.
