WOW! If you attended the Spring Show and experienced the music and student artwork firsthand, youโd understand exactly why this post begins with โwow.โ
The show opened with Ms. DeCaprioโs class performing a graceful scarf dance, followed by Mrs. Mooneyโs class bringing energy and excitement with boomwhackers set to this yearโs theme song, โWhat a Wonderful World.โ
The wow factor continued with the incredible voices of the chorus followed by the talented soloists performing on piano, ukulele, drums, and vocals. Every moment showcased the studentsโ hard work and creativity. The beautiful artwork created by students in Ms. DeCaprioโs, Mrs. Mooneyโs, and Ms. Bussmanโs classes added even more color and spirit to the day, making it a truly outstanding program.

๐ Fun, Friendship & Real-Life Learning! ๐
Being part of the Pathways Program comes with many exciting opportunities! Each year, students in Mrs. Hessโs class work hard in our Work-Based Learning Program, earning school money while gaining valuable job experience off campus. ๐ผ๐ฐ
One important lesson students learn is how to budget and save their earnings throughout the year for a special class trip โ a wonderful way to build independence and real-world money management skills! ๐โจ
On April 23rd, the class enjoyed a fun-filled trip to ๐ฎ Dave & Busterโs at Freehold Mall! Students had time to explore their favorite stores and shop before heading into the arcade for games, laughter, and friendly competition. ๐๏ธ๐น๏ธ
The day also included a delicious lunch ๐๐ and plenty of smiles as students enjoyed spending time together and celebrating all of their hard work this year. ๐

Feature Friday!
In science class, we did the dancing dandelion experiment. The "dancing dandelion" experiment is a simple science activity in which a dandelion stem is split into strips and placed in water, causing the strands to rapidly curl, twist, and spiral as if they were "dancing."
We also did a related experiment: The Waterproof Dandelion. A common companion to this experiment involves dipping a dandelion "clock" (the white puffy seed head) into water.
Observation: When submerged, the seeds appear to have a silver, shiny coating. When pulled out, the dandelion is perfectly dry.
Why?: The dense bristles (pappus) trap a thin layer of air around the seeds, creating a "hydrophobic shield" that prevents water from touching the plant itself

๐ Pathways Guest Speaker Event Recap ๐
On Friday, April 24, Pathways students attended an open forum featuring guest speaker Jenna Pecco ๐ฉโ๐ผ, a support coordinator with Choice Milestones and Prism Support Services. She discussed the application process for Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) services ๐ and explained the range of supports available based on individual needs and preferences ๐ค.
DDD supports individualsโ rights to set personal goals for employment ๐ผ, community living ๐๏ธ, and independent decision-making โ
.
After an individual is approved for DDD services ๐, they choose a support coordination agency, which assigns a support coordinator to develop an Individual Support Plan (ISP) ๐๏ธ. The support coordinator also assists individuals in using their DDD budget ๐ฐ to find appropriate programs, activities ๐งฉ, and living arrangements ๐ .
Students had the opportunity to ask questions โ and gain valuable insight into navigating the system, helping them feel more confident and reassured ๐ as they continue their journey beyond New Road ๐.
โ๐The Division of Developmental Disabilities ensures individuals with developmental disabilities have access to quality services and supports ๐ค, can participate meaningfully in their communities ๐๏ธ, and are empowered to exercise their right to make choices โ
