๐ŸŽ“ Celebrating the Class of 2026! ๐ŸŽ“
As our graduates prepared for their big day today, they ended practice with a huge surprise! The entire New Road family filled the halls as our graduates walked through, being cheered on for all they have accomplished.

Students and staff made posters, brought in props, and went all out to show their appreciation, pride, and excitement for each and every graduate. The smiles on their faces as they realized the surprise was waiting for them is a memory they wonโ€™t soon forget.

We are so proud of the Class of 2026 and all of their hard work, growth, and accomplishments. We cannot wait to continue cheering them on as they walk into their next adventure! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽ‰

Bringing The Starry Night to Life ๐ŸŒŸ

This month, our students are diving deep into the world of Vincent Van Gogh through an exciting hands-on artistic exploration ๐ŸŽจ. Our art classes are transforming classic art study into an immersive creative experience that bridges historical artistic techniques with contemporary student creativity, pushing the boundaries of traditional art education! ๐ŸŒˆ

Project Background ๐Ÿ“š
Van Gogh's unique approach to painting revolutionized artistic expression, particularly his distinctive brushwork and emotional intensity ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ. Our students are exploring how texture and movement can communicate deeper emotional landscapes through visual art, delving into the psychological and technical aspects of artistic creation. ๐Ÿง

WOW! If you attended the Spring Show and experienced the music and student artwork firsthand, youโ€™d understand exactly why this post begins with โ€œwow.โ€
The show opened with Ms. DeCaprioโ€™s class performing a graceful scarf dance, followed by Mrs. Mooneyโ€™s class bringing energy and excitement with boomwhackers set to this yearโ€™s theme song, โ€œWhat a Wonderful World.โ€

The wow factor continued with the incredible voices of the chorus followed by the talented soloists performing on piano, ukulele, drums, and vocals. Every moment showcased the studentsโ€™ hard work and creativity. The beautiful artwork created by students in Ms. DeCaprioโ€™s, Mrs. Mooneyโ€™s, and Ms. Bussmanโ€™s classes added even more color and spirit to the day, making it a truly outstanding program.

๐ŸŽ‰ Fun, Friendship & Real-Life Learning! ๐ŸŽ‰
Being part of the Pathways Program comes with many exciting opportunities! Each year, students in Mrs. Hessโ€™s class work hard in our Work-Based Learning Program, earning school money while gaining valuable job experience off campus. ๐Ÿ’ผ๐Ÿ’ฐ

One important lesson students learn is how to budget and save their earnings throughout the year for a special class trip โ€” a wonderful way to build independence and real-world money management skills! ๐Ÿ“šโœจ

On April 23rd, the class enjoyed a fun-filled trip to ๐ŸŽฎ Dave & Busterโ€™s at Freehold Mall! Students had time to explore their favorite stores and shop before heading into the arcade for games, laughter, and friendly competition. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ

The day also included a delicious lunch ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŸ and plenty of smiles as students enjoyed spending time together and celebrating all of their hard work this year. ๐Ÿ˜Š
What a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and fun memories!

Feature Friday!

In science class, we did the dancing dandelion experiment. The "dancing dandelion" experiment is a simple science activity in which a dandelion stem is split into strips and placed in water, causing the strands to rapidly curl, twist, and spiral as if they were "dancing."

We also did a related experiment: The Waterproof Dandelion. A common companion to this experiment involves dipping a dandelion "clock" (the white puffy seed head) into water.

Observation: When submerged, the seeds appear to have a silver, shiny coating. When pulled out, the dandelion is perfectly dry.

Why?: The dense bristles (pappus) trap a thin layer of air around the seeds, creating a "hydrophobic shield" that prevents water from touching the plant itself

Ms. Tacyโ€™s Language Arts class broke into two reading groups to begin reading the novels Frankenstein โšก๐Ÿงช and The Giver ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ“–. Students worked together ๐Ÿค to read, discuss important themes and characters ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ‘ฅ, and share their thoughts and opinions about the stories ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธโœจ. Throughout the lesson, students completed Student Workbook language arts and reading comprehension activities ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“š that helped strengthen their understanding of vocabulary, plot, and critical thinking skills ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’ก. The classroom was filled with thoughtful discussions ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ“–, teamwork ๐Ÿค—, and creativity ๐ŸŽจ as students compared ideas and supported their answers using details from the novels. Everyone stayed engaged and excited while exploring these classic and thought-provoking stories ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“˜โœจ.

๐ŸŒŸ Pathways Guest Speaker Event Recap ๐ŸŒŸ
On Friday, April 24, Pathways students attended an open forum featuring guest speaker Jenna Pecco ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ผ, a support coordinator with Choice Milestones and Prism Support Services. She discussed the application process for Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) services ๐Ÿ“ and explained the range of supports available based on individual needs and preferences ๐Ÿค.

DDD supports individualsโ€™ rights to set personal goals for employment ๐Ÿ’ผ, community living ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ, and independent decision-making โœ….

After an individual is approved for DDD services ๐ŸŽ‰, they choose a support coordination agency, which assigns a support coordinator to develop an Individual Support Plan (ISP) ๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ. The support coordinator also assists individuals in using their DDD budget ๐Ÿ’ฐ to find appropriate programs, activities ๐Ÿงฉ, and living arrangements ๐Ÿ .

Students had the opportunity to ask questions โ“ and gain valuable insight into navigating the system, helping them feel more confident and reassured ๐Ÿ˜Š as they continue their journey beyond New Road ๐Ÿš€.

โ€œ๐ŸŒŸThe Division of Developmental Disabilities ensures individuals with developmental disabilities have access to quality services and supports ๐Ÿค, can participate meaningfully in their communities ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ, and are empowered to exercise their right to make choices โœ….โ€
