Feels good to be back💪🏻

The Nicola De Zoysa Academy is back after a short hiatus & we're ready to dive into our online sessions.
DM us to register your child, yourself, your school, higher studies institute or company.

All sessions will be conducted by me; Nicola. I hold an Associate Diploma in Speech & Drama from Trinity College London and a Licentiate Diploma in Speech & Drama from the London College of Music. I have over 9 years of experience in coaching students (including for exams), out of which I have been teaching online for 3 years. I’m currently practicing as a Lawyer and I’ve been working as a News Anchor for TV & Radio since 2012.

I structure each 1:1 session according to the client's specific requirement and cater the lessons according to the line of work the student is in or the area of studies the student is following.

Together, we will work on improving your conversational English, speech sounds, pronunciation, writing skills, grammar, sight reading (reading out loud), presentation skills, projection, body language and the ability to confidently engage in interactive discussions.

If the student has a specific goal, we will work together to achieve that target; be it improving their general English for daily use or to assist them with their higher education, preparing for a job interview, having to engage with International clients as a part of their new job role, conducting meetings at work, or voice training needed to give a speech.

All lessons will be conducted online, via Zoom video calls. All you need is a stable internet connection.

has been my go-to video conferencing platform, be it when I coach my clients, attend my Masters lectures, have work meetings with my fellow lawyers or catch up with friends (we even had a Zoom party for my Birthday- cut a cake and everything!).
With all this technology to keep us socially connected while we stay physically distant, the new norm has given rise to a new set of guidelines to follow when it comes to video conferencing and online meetings, whether the setting is formal or casual.

Throwing it back to a couple years ago when bell-bottoms were apparently a thing (or were they?).
I recall us news anchors occasionally being called in for photoshoots in the newsroom. Yes, I made it to the billboards!

In my previous posts of The Grammar Dose, I introduced you to homophones and contractions. It’s and its too are homophones as they sound alike.
It is easy to confuse it’s, with an apostrophe between the t and s, and its, without any apostrophe at all.
While most English speakers can tell the difference between it’s and its, mixing up the two is an extremely common mistake. So, let’s break them down...

New practices of etiquette arise according to each situation we encounter. I thought it would be apt to discuss a few guidelines for practicing good etiquette during the times of COVID-19.
The term ‘social distancing’ (‘physical distancing’ to be more precise) has become commonplace within a matter of weeks and by now we’re all settled in (or can’t wait to get out of) the ‘new norm’.
If you’re in Sri Lanka, like me, then you’re probably reading this while in lockdown (unless you’re a frontline worker- big salute to you!). If, however, you’re not living in a country that has imposed lockdown or you’re living in a country that has already lifted curfew, then there are a few additional precautionary measures you need to take, especially since you are not strictly restricted from going out and about.
