Clint Smith, President and Director of Thunder Ranch®, is a Marine Corps veteran of two infantry and Combined Action Platoon tours in Vietnam. His experience includes seven years as a police officer during which he served as head of the Firearms Training Division as well as being a S.W.A.T. He left law enforcement to serve as Operations Officer for the American Pistol Institute where he was Dean o

f instruction and was instrumental in range and curriculum development for A.P.I. In 1983, Clint founded International Training Consultants, Inc., an active mobile training program which is nationally recognized for innovative programs in Urban Rifle, Shotgun, Precision Rifle, and various handgun formats. In 1986, he served as Director of Training for Heckler & Koch, Inc., where he developed and taught progressive courses in fully automatic weapons as well as conventional weapons systems. opened to show not only innovative training, but numerous range designs and functions of a type not seen before in one facility. Clint is a contributor to American Handgunner, American Cop, GUNS and SWAT magazines and has published articles in many other national and international publications.

Long Range Scoped AR at the one and only Thunder Ranch provides a unique opportunity to explore the practical application of extended-range marksmanship with an AR, traditionally a role for bolt-action rifles and addresses critical elements for rapid engagement of targets at different distances.

This is not a basic marksmanship course, it’s a dynamic, problem-solving class where you’ll shoot, move, and engage multiple threats under tight time constraints AND develop the skills and knowledge to engage threats from close quarters to extended ranges up to 700 yards.

The crew just wrapped up a Mobile Two Day Tac Med plus a Two Day LE Pistol/Rifle tuneup in the small town of Lovell, Wyoming. It was really awesome seeing a community come together to help support the efforts to get much needed training for their officers and residents. This is our second year in Lovell and we will definitely be back.

Now the long trek home to make it to UR starting tomorrow.

There are still a couple spots left in our 3 Day Tac Med at the Ranch in Oregon.

Last week we had our summer staff retreat! Thank you to our entire staff- those who could make it, and those who couldn’t- for the hard work and dedication they put into every day in class, on the range and with our students. Thank you as well to their families (and pups!) for coming out. We had a blast hanging out, training and making new memories ⚡️

Today we began Defensive Shotgun, and on Thursday we jump straight into DH1.

Join us September 22nd for Advanced 1911 Diagnostic with Jason Burton Heirloom Precision

This 2 day course is aimed at providing in-depth knowledge of the 1911 pistol’s operation and how to properly fit essential components.

Students will cover a lot of ground in this class- from disassembly and understanding the firing cycle- to replacing, modifying and test firing to ensure proper function of their pistols.

We are proud to host this course with Jason every year, and it always rolls right into Perfect Storm: Crossing Streams with both him and Rob Leatham (Sept 24)
