Receiving across your body or the back foot!

One of the most important thing to be able to do as a soccer player is receive the ball across your body. It is one of the basic skills but one of the most important. Why? Because as you can see from the video receiving across your body allows you to have options with the ball like passing, turning, or even getting a shot off. Coaches please emphasis this to your players as this skill is vital for any player wanting to play at a higher level than recreational soccer.

We always emphasis this in training sessions so that players have an understanding and confidence to do it in a game.

Improvements! We spent almost 2 weeks working on Cordell's ability to be able to put in a cross with his left foot. So good to see him having the confidence to use it in a game!

Important things we coached in practice!

1) Take the angle before hitting in the cross.
2) Look up to see your target
3) Cross the ball to make it hit the target.
4) Make sure it has enough power on it so that the other players has to just redirect it into the net!

In this exercise we are working on the Austin's ability to manipulate the ball with will running at speed. Then we worked on him running with the ball and changing directions quickly.

Technical Development is key to the development of young players! Learning the proper way to pass, dribble, and receive the ball are vital to a player reaching their personal best! Players who are not taught this may succeed early on in their soccer career but will struggle once they play at higher levels. This is why all of our sessions are based on repeating the same basic skills over and over. The goal is that when a player needs to use them in a game they can react without even thinking because of the skills base they have developed.

Technical Development

There is not a magic formula to continued improvement. It's consistency + time + right environment = Results. Repeating the correct fundamentals over and over until they are second nature is key. Why? Because at some point soccer is soccer. The best players just do the simple things exceptionally well consistently. So to see our players improve we follow that same belief. We work the same skills until the players do it with out thinking at a high level in a game. That is the "Result" we are going for! Good job
