I am extremely sad to type this post!! One of our members & annual volunteer during Sun 'n Fun, Eric Kaltenbacher flew west last week.
Eric had many passions: he had a Private Pilot certificate, was an accomplished machinist as well as woodworker; and loved traveling with his wife and daughter. With a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Eric was a Senior Research Engineer at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
We are praying for his wife, Ellen, their daughter, Natalie and all of his family. His father in law, Byron Covey is also a member of the OX-5 Midwest Florida Wing. They would attend Sun 'n Fun together each year!!
Eric will be greatly missed💗

The OX5 Aviation Pioneers - Midwest Florida Wing was the 1st aviation clubhouse at Lakeland Linder Airport and was built the year Sun 'n Fun began. We have the only existing clubhouse for the entire OX5 organization and it was built by our "founding members" and cared for by current members.
Each year, we are thrilled to come together in the spirit of flight to honor those members who have flown West, for educating the youth on the importance of aerospace and to enjoy camaraderie with people who love all things aviation.
We are so blessed to have this 1 week every year to volunteer and be part of something great!!!

Fun day at the OX5 building, prepping for the Fly-In. We made homemade Italian sausage (180 links for the club) and let me tell you....these are made with love!
Cut, ground, seasoned, cased and linked!! Of course, we had to make some onions and peppers and sample the product LOL.

Preparing for this year's Sun ' Fun Fly In. Power washed the building and chairs. This weekend we will be deep cleaning the inside, reorganizing, taking inventory and beautifying the outside of the building. Lots of work to do!!
