When we workout, lift weights, muscle protein synthesis is increased πŸ“ˆ

When you eat post workout, protein synthesis is increased and protein breakdown is decreased resulting in a positive protein balance. 

Protein increases the supple of amino acids to the muscle, resulting in muscle growth. We want muscle growth πŸ‘πŸ½

When we don’t consume protein post workout, we are doing out bodies a disfavor. 

Realistically when we don’t eat protein post workout, we do miss out on some of the benefits only gleaned during the post workout window πŸ“‰

So which one is best? Shake or food?

I personally go back and forth. Sometimes (now being pregnant) I need to eat right after my workout so I skip the protein shake and consume my protein through Whole Foods. But there are some days I need a shake due to time constraints or my schedule so I have a shake. But I am still getting protein in regaruldless. 

Overall, protein is very important for muscle growth, repairing of the muscles, and recovery. πŸ’ͺ🏽

Now this doesn’t mean 65 minutes after your workout, your body no longer uses the protein you consume for muscle growth, but it does mean if you can eat within 60minutes of exercise, do it!πŸ—πŸ³πŸ₯―πŸ“

Food is fuel, not the enemy! Protein is very important! ✨
