8 of our Vet 3 students had an unique field trip with one of our partnering businesses today. Cleveland Heights Animal Hospital opened its doors and welcomed our eager CVA intern hopefuls; sharing their industry experience and skills sets with our group.
Our students began the tour within the clinic’s lodging wing, where short term housing and grooming practices take place. We were soon lead to the medical wing where each of our students were paired off in teams of two, to discuss specific topics with the staff members available.
The topics included, but were not limited to:
🩻Radiology set up, reading x-rays, safety
💊Pharmaceutical sales as a potential career
😷Surgical prep- placement of catheter, usage of anesthesia, dental x-rays, and a dental exam with extractions
❤️Euthanasia practices, client care during this decision, and aftercare of decedent
🦷 Rabies- symptoms, precautions, prevention, and treatment
The tour today was a great success and we look forward to see where our students will go, with this newfound knowledge. Huge thank you to Cleveland Heights and its wonderful staff!!!

Did you know…
What is this simple green line? This tiny spot could prevent unnecessary surgery in dogs and cats.
Spoiler alert: Spay/neuter tattoos are considered standard of care, and yet they are not consistently taught or modelled in veterinary schools. Clinics that do high volume spay/neuter or take in large numbers of homeless animals with uncertain spay/neuter status are much more likely to use the markings than private practices. Lots of room for more education!

We received the news several weeks back that we qualified as a certified Vet Academy through NCAC. Thank you to all of these students for speaking on our academy’s behalf through the process along with our parents and community partners who helped as well. We couldn’t have done it without each of you.
