Tutors with Tails (TWT) ~ Success Story
This young man has struggled in school. The highlight of his week is to go up to the library during his lunch hour and read with a our TWT therapy dog Rowen. He is greeted by a large golden dog that looks like a gentle lion. Rowen has a heart of gold, he wiggles and wriggles and nuzzles up. The student’s whole body just relaxes as soon as he sees the dog, his whole demeanor changes. He gets soft, and kind and cuddly. He settles in to read to his new best friend. Rowen just listens, silently cheering the boy on. “You can do it, buddy,” he seems to say. “You can win at this thing called life. I believe in you.” His teacher tells our Site Coordinator that the student returns to class hardly being able to contain his excitement. His love of learning is growing and his confidence and sense of success is growing as well. “I can do it!” is the boy’s new phrase.

"We are thanked frequently as volunteers for giving of our time. The real thanks should come from me to the kids. They let me be a part of their lives and warmly welcomed me into their world and valued the advice and counsel. It gave life a real purpose." ~ Rob Milroy

Scott and Ginger, one of our Tutors with Tails teams join KPMS students once a week to help out in an anxiety small group where they learn about different coping skills for anxiety and have a safe space to talk about things stressing them out and causing anxiousness. They learn to use breathing techniques and mindfulness activities. Ginger helps calm everyone as they talk through tough stuff and when the weather is nice they get outside for some fresh air, sunshine, and a quick round of fetch to get their bodies moving!

Vaughn Elementary Fairy Club Song
🎶"Fairies from the blossom tree, super skills galore have we.
Caring in this charming wood, for needy animals as we should.
Twinkle, sparkle, dazzle, swish, tending animals as they wish.
And when a rescue's nicely done, it's time to have some fairy fun.
Dancing, singing, twirling, glee. All around our blossom tree.
Twinkle, sparkle, dazzle, swish, tending animals as they wish."🎵
