💙 Friendship is a powerful part of childhood 🌻but not every friendship is healthy.

Teaching children how to recognize unhealthy friendship behaviors helps them build confidence, set boundaries, and develop positive relationships that support their growth.

☀️ Summer isn't just a break from school ☀️ it's the BEST classroom you'll ever have. 📚

While the kids are home, here are real things parents can do this summer to raise capable, emotionally healthy humans:

💰 Let them see you budget ☀️ grocery trips, bills, family decisions. Make money real.

🧠 Name emotions out loud. "I'm frustrated right now and here's how I'm handling it."

🍳 Cook actual meals together ☀️ not just fun recipes, but real meal planning and grocery lists.

📵 Set screen boundaries together ☀️ and keep yours too. They're watching.

🗣️ Practice disagreeing respectfully. Summer = lots of togetherness = lots of opportunity.

🤝 Let them see you apologize ☀️ genuinely, to them and to others.

⚖️ Walk through moral dilemmas together ☀️the news, a movie, a situation with a friend. Talk about the WHY.

🧾 Explain credit, interest, and debt before they hit adulthood blindfolded.

🌱 Practice delayed gratification and ☀️not every want needs to be met immediately.

😔 Let them be disappointed sometimes. Sit with them in it instead of fixing it.

🔍 Question things together ☀️ ads, social media, headlines. Model critical thinking out loud.

🙏 Help them discover who they ARE, not just what they can achieve.

🏥 Talk about mental health openly. Normalize struggle. Normalize asking for help.

📋 Teach them to advocate for themselves how ☀️to make a phone call, ask a question, speak up.

🏠 Give them real chores with real expectations. Preparation, not punishment.

Summer is 10-12 weeks of unstructured time. That's not a gap in education ☀️ that's an opportunity. 🌻

The lessons that shape a life don't always come from a classroom. Sometimes they come from a kitchen, a budget spreadsheet, a hard conversation, or a simple walk outside.

Be intentional this summer. 💛

🌼Mental health IS special education. They cannot be separated. Behind every IEP, every accommodation, every advocacy meeting — there is a whole child who deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported.
