Home Practice.

A huge initiative at WABA. Harrision is so close to mastery on Circle Arounds. He has done blindfolded footskills and cognitive overlay training at home for more than 365 days straight without missing a day. This is part of our Gritty 100 program.

Great Job.

Working on vestibular balance enhancements. 360 spin and run, a pretty challenging exercise.

This Is More Than Ping Pong.

Watch closely—there’s a LOT happening here.

Four players rotate against one of our 3 ping-pong robots, taking one shot and immediately moving out of the way while the next player steps in. But they’re also performing continuous varying footskills, toe taps with a soccer ball at their feet.

That means they have to scan, locate the soccer ball, control their feet, move into position, react to the incoming ping-pong ball, hit it, and immediately transition out—over and over again. We can turn the speed of the ball delivery up to 100 per minute. That’s quick reactions.

And we add another cognitive layer:
six different colored ping-pong balls,
each with a numerical value.

⚪ White = 0
🔵 Blue = 1
🔴 Red = 2
🟡 Yellow = 3
🟢 Green = 4
⚫ Black = 10

So they don’t just react—they have to see it, process it, identify it, and call out the correct number.

This is Cognitive Overlay Training with footskills.

We’re deliberately forcing the brain to manage multiple streams of information while the body is moving. The goal is to develop faster visual scanning, peripheral awareness, reflexes, reaction speed, decision-making, coordination, and movement efficiency—all while under cognitive interference.

The game isn’t getting easier.

We’re making the brain and body work harder together.

STRUGGLE!

After an hour of intense Eyez-Up attacking skills on the main pitch, we transitioned into a cognitive overlay activity:

Can you perform different footskills while simultaneously playing ping pong?

What happens next is fascinating.

A player can consistently volley a ping pong ball 20+ times, and their individual footskills are already very good. But introduce cognitive interference—forcing the brain to manage both tasks simultaneously—and suddenly, both skills begin to break down.

THAT is the STRUGGLE we are looking for.

This is exactly what our 8-week program is designed to develop: the ability to maintain high-level soccer skills under extreme distraction, cognitive interference, and multitasking demands.

Because in the game, players don’t get to perform skills in isolation.

The best players can execute when their brain is busy.

Learning to track multiple items at the same time. Critical skill for high level footballers. Improving the visual and neurological components are equally as important as learning skills and becoming athletic.

Good work Harrision & Michael.

WABA - Where Atthletes Become Amazing!

Youth sports is way more than just getting good at skills.

At WABA we take a 360 learning approach that goes far beyond playing great soccer or learning off the hook footskills. Look at these boys maintaining their facility after lunch break. They are learning to respect and take care of their environment, not just play soccer.

Nice Job Boys!
You should be very proud of your work.

Oops, forgot to mention, these boys athletic and soccer skills have skyrocketed at WABA Camps & Xtreme Athleticism this summer.

Achievement
Struggle
Focus
Repeat

A common theme that Charlie (2014) has learned at WABA over the last two years. He recently set his personal best alternate laces juggling record of 2703 juggles in a row. He has moved on to harder skills with constraints and cognitive overlays.

Inside of the foot juggling, great for settling a tough aerial ball. He is stepping up the struggle level by using a Sepak Tekraw rattan ball. (we practice with 20 different types of balls at WABA). Charlie achieved 24 IAR. I would bet he gets to WABA Mastrry, 250 alternating IAR, within a few months.

The greatest improvement that we have seen in Charlie over the last 2 years is not his amazing new soccer skills…It’s actually his executive function. These newfound skills will skyrocket not only his soccer and schoolwork but also many aspects of his adult life.

Great Job Char! WABAON!
