Our Second Grade Rising Star Mentor students invited one of our sister school VPK classrooms to join them on the elementary campus for a fun fall activity.
After reading the book “The Leaf Thief” by Alice Hemming, they engaged in learning about the fall leaf life cycle by coloring, cutting, and gluing leaves in the correct order. Mentors then guided their mentees in sorting and counting fall objects in sensory bins. Our attentive mentors taught the VPK students how to keep a tally of their results.
Older students mentoring younger students benefits both mentees, who experience improved academic performance, self-esteem, and social skills, and mentors, who develop leadership abilities, confidence, and a stronger connection to school. This "double impact" creates a positive ripple effect by fostering a sense of community, enhancing communication, and providing social and emotional support for everyone involved.
Thank you, Mrs. Matthews and Ms. Carlene, for fostering this meaningful student engagement.

Ms. Guzman’s first-graders learned about what it means to be an engineer!
They focused on the design process for engineering and put their skills to the test by making a homemade spectroscope with materials brought in from home!
Spectroscopes are instruments that allow scientists to determine the chemical makeup of a visible source of light. The spectroscope separates the different colors of light so that scientists can discover the composition of an object. Spectroscopes are often used in Astronomy.
Students had fun discovering the hidden colors within light. Well done, first-grade!

Our students did a great job on their first of three school year MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing!
Testing students helps identify their academic strengths and weaknesses, informs teachers about instruction effectiveness, ensures accountability for our school and provides data for curriculum adjustments. Tests also help students improve their skills by revealing what they know, highlighting areas needing more focus, and building test-taking familiarity and confidence for future challenges.
Our Prep students are soaring to new heights! And kudos to our teachers for meeting each child’s needs!

Our Kindergarten A class activated their Pointer Power today!
Reader Man delivered a very special tool to their reading workshop last week…a Pointer Power Stick! Today they put it into practice, pointing crisply under each word as they read the warm-up poem of the week, Bluebird.
A pointer is good for kindergarten because it improves tracking for beginning readers, keeps children focused by directing their eyes to the text, and makes learning more engaging through interactive activities like word hunts and games.
Great job, readers!
