🤔 TRUE or FALSE?

Playing piano uses more parts of your brain than playing sports.

What do you think?

A) True — It’s a full-body workout for the brain!
B) False — Sports are more physically and mentally demanding

💡 Answer: A — TRUE!
Playing piano engages your visual, auditory, and motor systems all at once. It strengthens memory, focus, coordination, and emotional expression!

That’s why music lessons aren’t just fun—they’re incredibly beneficial for developing minds.

👀 Quick Tip for Piano Parents: It's important to slow down when practicing a new piece, and make sure you're diligently learning the music, sticking faithfully to the sheet music. However, when your child practices, every now and then you should ask them to “play it as if it’s a performance!”

This simple mindset shift helps them grow not just in skill, but in confidence and musicality.

This one goes out to the students who feel uninspired after page one. We’ve all been there 😂 DON’T BE A PAGE ONE PLAYER! Practice what you CAN’T play more than what you can. You got this!

The art of mastering the first page…(also called “ bad practice” )

You find a new piece. It looks amazing. You can already hear yourself playing it. Your audience, aka your cat, will be impressed. Smooth. Effortless. A masterpiece. You sit down and start.

The first notes? Perfect. You’re a genius. The music flows. This will be your piece. Then, you turn the page.

Chaos. Tiny, fast notes. Jumps that make no sense. Blurry chords. You stare at the page. You stare at your hands. This is not what you signed up for.

No problem. You’ll be disciplined. Slow practice. Hands separate. Metronome on. Counting out loud. No skipping the hard parts.

That lasts a day. Maybe two. By day three, you have a new plan. Play the beginning again. Just to “warm up.” It sounds great. Might as well play it again. And again. The hard part? It can wait.

Weeks pass. The opening is flawless. The theme? Beautiful. The hard part? Still a disaster. But who needs that section anyway?

You decide to “study” instead. Watch performances on YouTube. Compare interpretations on TikTok. Three hours later, you’ve learned a lot. Except how to play the middle section.

You sit at the piano again. The beginning is still perfect. The tricky part? A train wreck. You sigh, close the score, and tell yourself you’ll fix it tomorrow.

One more piece where you know the beginning. And nothing else.

( I wrote this post after being inspired by my students this week 😂)
